Re: I am soooo Blue

Sorry I have been away for some time. Marathon training is taking up a lot of time.

I have not had any issues with draining.
I do not know what the mcd of the lights are, but they are not good on the eyes to look straight into.
The back passenger LED's, I had to face down because they reflected too much forward, and made it hard to drive. I kept seeing blue flashes out of the corner of my eyes, and when I backed up, I could not see.

I am glad that everyone likes it, the kit was inexpensive and easy to install.

Nice look at Night! I would love to see how you mount those LED, too. Is it hard to do it yourself?

Re: I am soooo Blue

I will take pics this weekend in the daylight.
They were not hard to install, but then again, I am an engineer........

The biggest pain was getting all the wiring in the center and then soldering all the connectors and then shrink wrapping all that back together.
of course I missed a shrink wrap and had to take part of it back apart to fix.

if you take your time and test everything before you put it all back together, you are set.

See you with pics this weekend.

Hey, thanks for the info, i went on the website and got the 4 piece kit with the 2 9" add ons for 60 bucks with the shipping, ordered on the spot! I look forward to the pics of the install, it seems like it should be pretty self explanatory, but i would really like to see how someone who has already done it did it, haha, thanks again

woops, forgot to ask this previously, but did you have to do anything with resistors or is it just a straight connection for any 12v source?

I just wired the switch into the cigarette lighter wires.
The kit has all the resistors you need, it's all done.
Just make sure you put in the fuse that comes with the kit and you are set.
The reason for the cig wiring is because it turns off when the car goes off.
That way if you forget the LED's on they will not drain the battery.
I do not have pics of the wiring to the cig lighter or the switch, but I will post the pics of where I put the tubes.
Remember one thing, I had to add wire to the rear tube because I was too lazy to fish the cables under the carpet in the center. If you are more "not lazy" then you will not need to add the wiring.

I will try and take the pics tonight to help you out.
have fun, you will love them.

Aweomse, that would be greatly appreciated, did some scouting myself today to get an idea of where i want to mount them but id love the input of someone who's actually done it. Glad to know that I dont need to add wire, since apparently doing so will void the warranty. Again, thanks for this post, because it cost me about 10 bucks more than ordering the leds resistors and holders separately, but will save me hours of soldering and mounting, and seems like will put out ALOT more light in the end, kudos

Re: I am soooo Blue

MikeyMan,

Here are the pictures I promised.

Back Seat

Back Seat

Front Seat

Back Seat with LED's on

Front Seat with LED's on

Here is how I mounted these LED's.
The kit comes with clips to hold the LED's. I took out the rear seat and then I cleaned the center support bar under the seat with the cleaning pads that came with the kit (alcohol).
Then I put the clips on the LED rods and took off the paper to expose the sticky pad and then mounted the LED's where I wanted. I carefully held the clips in place and took the rods out of the clips. I then tie-wrapped the clips to the rail, so they would not come loose. Then I put the LED's back in place. Of course this is after laying the cables through the car to make sure they were long enough. The connection where all of the LED's plug in are under the center console between the front seats.

For the front seats I got creative (i think). I did the same thing with the clips but I attached them to the bar that allows you to move the seats forward, and then left slack in the cable to allow the seat to move all the way forward and backward. I tied the cables to one of the bundles already on the seat, so I did not have to worry about the length of the cables being to short. (I think the bundle is for the seat belt sensor.

If you need any additional information let me know. I will do my best to help you out.
I also put the switch in to turn off the lights if they are distracting while driving at night.

Have fun, good luck.

T

ooh, something I just thought of. The other cool thing is if you use the clips the LED rods still can be rotated. Like I did with the passenger rear LED's.

Ahhh, thanks, i appreciate it much, i will definitely hit you up if i have any issues, should be getting them in next week, so it will probably be a next weekend project as i have school and work during the week so no time. Looks great, i like the idea of the front seat bar, i was figuring thats how i would od it since there is that weird pocket on the bottom that would block the light.

Welcome.
Let me know I will try and help as much as I can. BTW, I got the switch at AutoZone for about $5, I think.
Easy to wire up.

Re: I am soooo Blue

I got my tubes in today, wish i had a 12v source to check them out with tonight, unfortunately i dont get home from school till after 1030, and right now its in the low 40s in socal, a little too chilly to be working out in the garage. I'm thinking about mounting the rocker switch where the ipod connections and stuff go on the center console seeing as i have an avic f90bt and those are now useless, any ideas how to get that setup apart? I have the tech manual, but its not totally complete and only shows an explosion of that area and not how to actually get it alla part. Unfortunately I dont have my 10 posts yet, so i can start my own thread, so hoepfully someone here will know, any ideas?

Re: I am soooo Blue

I got mine in yesterday, started running the wires and whatnot today, i noodled around with them briefly to make sure they all work before I mounted them, but it seems like there is no steady setting with all the leds just lighting up all at onee. Your pics have all the leds lit, was this a fade setting? Also, does the module save the setting you have it on, so if I mount the control under my center console with a switch coming out of my ipod control area (got that set up today) will it keep coming back to where I initially had it set or do you need the actual control module to be reachable

Check your PM.
The all LED's on is from the fade setting and hitting the hold button once they are all on.

Wow, thanks for the photos. I got more ideas how think works now.
I got the security LED with the breaking sensor on the place where you installed the switch. I may have to come up with another clean switch installation. Thanks again.

Re: I am soooo Blue

That looks great brother, I just ordered a set of my own. In my old Mazda3 and my OLD old Maxima I had the same thing and miss them. Your car resurrected my lighting obsession. Next step, vents, cup holders, and door cup holders.

Cheers.

Question Re: I am soooo Blue

I thought I saw an answer to my question (following) already posted somewhere but I cannot locate it again. Here goes . . .

I had the underdash and cup holder illumination installed by the dealer. Didn't want to wait for it. It toggles between 4 different colors and can be turned on and off with a switch (I still have to figure out how to do these two things). The cup holders look great but the under dash ones are so dim. Does anyone know how I can upgrade to brighter lights for that area? I am not mechanically inclined so I'd like to get something that is plug and play. I mean, literally plug and play?

Would love to hear any suggestions. I live in the Los Angeles area (San Fernando Valley) does anyone have a shop they recommend?

The kit was about $50 shipped.
I am sure any audio store (car alarms and radios) will do the install for you.
Most likely the install will be the same or more than the lights.
