Re: Have you changed your AC Control Lights?

How did you take the center trim piece off ? did you just pull it or did you use any kind of tool ?

Re: Have you changed your AC Control Lights?

Sorry this is my first attempt at a write up sorry if the pics are dark

First remove the silver trim around the shifter by pulling up on it ( It may take some force to do it)

with trim

without trim

Next remove the trim around stereo

with trim

without trim

After that there is a small trim piece just under the stereo pull to remove it

with trim

without trim

Then remove the 1 screw on the left side ( Philps )

the part the scrw was holding in lift up just enough to were you can slide te a/c controls out as it is hold one side of them

last pull the sliver trim around the a/c knobs to using caution as there are cable connected. You will have to remove the two control cables to change two of the leds.

Finally reverse to reassemble

Hope this helps some

Re: Have you changed your AC Control Lights?

After I changed out my lights I got the gearing off on the AC knob. Any ideas or tips on how to fix that?

yes, and before you ask, they are PLCC-2 type LEDs search ebay or try mouser electronics

I noticed that your Tack, fuel, and Temp Gauges are not lit up. Did you not have the LED installed yet or is there a problem with changing them out?

Re: Have you changed your AC Control Lights?

Looks like they are changed to me, look closely at the base of the needles, it glows blue. Probelm is if you don't change the gauge overlay when you change the bulbs you still have ornage numbers that are no trying to be back lit with blue light. just doesn't show up very well. I just finished mine this afternoon and the same thing. Fortunately I have a set of gauges coming from Jason that will take care of this.

As a side note. Has anyone figured out what type of LED is used in the steering wheel radio control and radio, they are the same, or the window switch?

wow...that's an old photo

here's a more up to date one, I got rid of my old face from Jason and updated it with one I did instead

you'll notice the needles are still dim, the red plastic really attenuates the blue light, but I'm having some clear needles made up, pics to follow

Re: Have you changed your AC Control Lights?

Looks much nicer with the numbers showing through.

Thanks for the LED size. I'll try one of my spare PLCCs on the steering wheel control. Don't have enough extra fro the radio and I plan on changing it anyway.

Re: Have you changed your AC Control Lights?

Actually it's pretty easy to get to, I took it apart yesterday to look at it.

All you need to do is undo the two Torx bolts on either side of the back of the steering wheel and the airbag/horn assembly will come right off. From there you can see the one phillips screw holding the radio controls in. Once the screw is removed pull hard as the locater pin is very tight. Unplug the harness from the column and the horn and then remove the two phillips screws ont he back of the switch assembly and you can pull the circuit board right out and re-solder the LED. Install is the reverse of removal of course.

Obviously disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before starting this just to make sure you don't set off the airbag.

When I get around to it I'll post a How-to in the DIY section. Maybe tomorrow morning.
