Re: door speaker sizes

yes to the above, but you can get 6.5's in both with speaker adapters. the factory ones are riveted in. not hard to change at all!!!

Re: door speaker sizes

Also, although Crutchfield says that 6 3/4" doesn't fit, I'm sure that they would fit in the front doors since the opening is over 7". Just watch the mounting depth.

Re: door speaker sizes

I'm sure the speaker brackets that elemental designs sells for the tC will work. I used their brackets front and rear(with a little modification for the rear) in the tC. And I'm gonna assume they're even easier to fit in the box

Re: door speaker sizes

I just took my panels off today and found the stok speakers riveted in the frame. How do I get the old ones out and what can I do to put the new ones in?

Do I need to buy some kind of mounting frame?

You can use a unibit or a drill bit to drill the rivits out, and then a pry tool to pop the speaker away from the door if they're still pretty stuck on there.

Elemental Designs makes an MDF 3/4 inch bracket already precut and small pilot holes for the front doors. These can easily be adapted to the rear doors as well. The only issue is that they are cut out for 6.5" speakers with very large diameter baskets. My Kappa Perfect 6.1s barely leave me any room to actually mount them to the mdf.

Ok, that's what I was afraid of. Am I going to have to rivet the new frames back in as well?

na you can use self taping screws or some zinc plated nuts and bolts if you're worried about rusting. i went to home depot and grabbed some 10mm bolts and locking nuts. torqued them down pretty good with my drill so that the mdf can't vibrate against the sheet metal. Also did a coat of dynamat extreme around the speaker cutout and against the sheet metal on the doors..

Re: door speaker sizes

I have 7" drivers in mine for both the front and rears...there alot of room in the spaces so once you get the factory speakers out, you have enough room to play around with alot of different types of speaker configurations.

you can just drill them out with a drill bit..make sure you don't go too big on the drill bit size.

You can do 8's in the doors. I have 8's in my front doors and 6.5's in the rear doors.

Re: door speaker sizes

Where do you put the crossovers? I have 6.5 momo's for the fronts and the crossovers are about 4x6 and about 1.5 inches deep, polk says not to install them in the door panel, but my buddy says there is a part thats sealed off from weather...any suggestions?

Re: door speaker sizes

i put mine outside of that weather seal in the door panel because I didn't feel like running multiple sets of wiring through the grommet..

Re: door speaker sizes

I was looking to upgrade the factory speakers once I get my box. Anyone have any more information to add to this thread? Thanks for all the posts on this, it has helped me get a good idea of what to expect!

Re: door speaker sizes

Now Elemental designs allows you to order their MDF brackets with custom speaker cutouts so you can tailor them to your specific needs at no additional charge. You just have to call them instead of placing the order on their website
