Re: removing and painting pillars?

the front pillars are hard cause you have to pop them about 1in out then get a screwdriver back into that black plastic piece and pop that out. The B pillars, just unbolt the shoulder harness, pop the top out and lift up. You will have to loosen the bottom section though. The C pillars, unbolt the seat belt at the floor so you can feed it thru the plastic. Pop the top and keep it going toward you till it comes loose a the bottom. We have a video of me doing a headliner but it's with the editing guy right now.

Re: removing and painting pillars?

I want to paint my shifter trim panel and climate control trim panel. Did you sand the panels before painting them. Also what kind of paint did you use?

Re: removing and painting pillars?

for some reason my post disappeared.. but to get the a pillars off.. pop it out on the top and middle.. pull back the weatherstripping.. and use a pair of needlenose pliers to rotate the top piece 45 degrees holding the top of the panel in.. then the top will slide out easily and then you just lift up to release the bottom

have you painted the steering wheel trim since the pic was taken or do you want to know how to remove that as well?

Re: removing and painting pillars?

ok so we dont have to worry about the air bags right, i mean on the pillars it shows the airbag word, but they are not located on the pillars right?

they're behind the pillars.. you can remove the pillars.. the reason the top clip is made the way it is, is because when/if the air bags deploy, the a pillar doesn't fly off and hit someone in the head.. it will stay attached

Re: removing and painting pillars?

so the airbags are attach to the pillars? when taking off the pillars, is there any chance of the airbags deploying?

Re: removing and painting pillars?

no they are behind the pillars.. not attached to the plastic panels.. when you remove the plastic panel you REALLY remove it.. it's not connected to the air bags

and not technically.. if you do it properly then no.. if you short the wires or something then yeah it could.. but if you do the process which i posted above then they will not deploy

Re: removing and painting pillars?

Man just think of it this way. Absolutely make sure the paint does not oversize the pillar thus interfering with the way the airbag deploys. Yes paint can crack but if it would send the bag just a little in any direction you can get hurt badly. Same as your seats are equipped with side curtain airbags. The bag deploys in milliseconds so any interference might cause a problem. This is why i did not paint the center of my steering wheel nor will i mess with the door pillars. Just my 2 cents. There have been people with major seperated shoulders that did their own seat covers that did not include a rip seam for the airbag to deploy.

Re: removing and painting pillars?

Early this week, I played with the pillars. I got the C pillars out with a LOT of force, but cant get the seat belt off. Any tips? And how exactly do you pull the A pillars out? My week vacation from work is coming. I want to do this project, wrapping the headliner, painting the pillars, and custom seat covers. I already started on the seat covers and pillar removal, but need additional help on pillar removal.

i posted how a few posts up.. remove weather stripping.. pull out on top and middle.. get a pair of needlenose pliers and reach in and rotate the top clip 90 degrees.. you'll see what i'm talking about.. it's the piece that won't pop out when you pull the panel out, it only comes out so far and stops.. rotate it and that release the clips from the car.. then lift up and your a pillar is out
