painted interior version 1.0

Flickr: black&bluexb2's Photostream

This is what i came up with when my friend and i got bored yesterday. My favorite thing is the doors. (looks like its should be that way) The picture close up on the vent is showing how it looks when we tried to get the black to resemble the BSP. Also that outside vent I've decided now that its in needs to be blue.
Next will be the right vent, a/c panel, panel left of steering wheel, and the center part of the shifting console (BTW how do you get that off?) I didn't do these parts because i didn't want to fully remove the dash.

Also a few pics of after i first washed and waxed it.

Its on flickr because the pictures i took with my camera are too big and I'm not sure how to resize them.

Any feedback is appreciated

i just popped them out and spray painted them. the silver is a metal paint and the blue and black are plastic paints.

Re: painted interior version 1.0

not bad, IMO you should paint all the silver pieces in the car that blue color. and I agree the circle around the air vent would look much better blue.

Re: painted interior version 1.0

That is nice. I just came across this post, and I've never seen a home-done paint job as good as this one. What were the brands on the paint? I'm doing my door window/door lock pieces (all four), the interior piece covering the auto transmission knob and the piece surrounding the radio in dark burlwood by sending the pieces to a company that custom dips the entire piece. I want to do something with the outside piece around the gear knob and the silver plastic that runs from the tranny to the driver's door. I never thought if paint, but the job you did looks so good, I may try it. Thanks, Ron

Re: painted interior version 1.0

I have the Naut Blue and was considering the same treatment. I like the contrast of the RS 5 gold part so much I was looking to do the same thing. Can you post the brands of paint you used? TIA.

Looks fantastic! I dont want to copy your ideas but would like to paint a/c vent rings. What is the best way to remove them? Thanks

Two ways. Remove the entire dash (see Toyota's specs) or unclip driver's side and two center pieces by unclipping where illustrated.
For the passanger's side vent, I was able to lift the dash enough to get behind the vent and unscrew the frame. (clockwise, because you're behind it.) Reinstall is easier.
Do disconnect the battery and wait a half-hour to 45 minutes before you begin. You have to unscrew the radio but I never unplugged it; I just balanced it where it was. Hope this helps.

Re: painted interior version 1.0

Thanks Ron, I've had access to everything except the passenger vent. I was hoping for a shortcut or simple formula but I kinda figured it would turn into a small project. If it looks as good as yours, it'll be worth it. Thanks again

That looks great! I'd love to do that. Does anyone know if you can buy the trim pieces, like the shifter surround, or the HVAC surround, as parts? I'd like to do it on a set of extras in case I mess it up

it looks great, curious about your C-pillar what kind of speaker cover did you use or is it custom? I want to do something w/ it, but not the cargo net from the dealer

Start checking junk yards. You can get them from Toyota but they are not cheap.

I dig the silver vents.
