Fabric on door panel

I am two toning my interior, and can not figure out how to remove the fabric peice on the door panel. I removed the door panel, but there are no clips or screws to remove the fabric section. On the premise that stupid questions are easier to handle than stupid mistakes, can anybody tell me how to wrap the fabric panel with leather. Thanks

Re: Fabric on door panel

most people put the new material over the stock fabric. Because if I remember correctly, that panel can only be cut off. Then plastic welded back together

Re: Fabric on door panel

Having had the doors off a few times i can tell you that the fabric panel is definitely not a separate piece.

Thanks, now I know what I can't do. This is when the creative part of my brain comes up with a masterpiece or gets me in really deep trouble. Cutting out the panel opens a lot of possibilities. Back to the drawing board.

Re: Fabric on door panel

you don't need to cut out the plastic panels to put new fabric in!...just use a screwdriver to get it into the crevices! make sure you use industrial grade contact cement on both the original fabric on the door panel and the new fabric that you are trying to get on!

Re: Fabric on door panel

Thanks jtwo, It sounds like I have one shot at getting it right, I am using a thick leather. I will look for something thinner for this job.

Re: Fabric on door panel

i don't think you will need to worry about thickness...you can get a tool to make the leather you are working with thinner...i don't know what it is called but there is a razor sharp tool and kinda looks like a potatoe peeler and it thins out the suede part of the leather! look into it..that way you can keep the same leather look with other parts that you already used the same leather on!

Re: Fabric on door panel

yeah..don't cut up your interior.....when you don't need to...just buy alot of tape to mask around the insert to spray the glue...don't use super 77....you have to use industrial contact cement..that is what the upholstry shops use....it is made by DAP....i snooped around and saw what they used and the brand!!!! sneeky me?
