08' navigation system

Anybody know how to change the new nav system so you can play DVDs while driving. Currently it turns off when you release the emergency brake?

Re: 08' navigation system

Thats a safety feature that ALL indash DVD players have, most installer bypass it but Toyota can not due to liability. Check out a local stereo shop and ask them to get the wiring diagram. Then they can do it.

Re: 08' navigation system

From my understand if you ground out your parking brake....then it cpu thinks
that the parking brake is always up....hence allowing you to watch DVD while the parking brake is down.

Re: 08' navigation system

You have to interupt the VSS signal as well as the parking brake needs to be grounded.

Re: 08' navigation system

What is the "VSS signal"? Yeah I figured the brake light needs to be on, I need to also figure out how stop the "buzzer" from sounding when the brake light is on.

I e-mailed the company that makes the Navigation system but they can't tell me how to override the feature. No surprise there.

Re: 08' navigation system

If you had a wiring diagram I could tell you how to break the Vehicle Speed Sensor signal, which is what's making the video turn off.

Re: 08' navigation system

The dealer said its a matter of re-programming the actual unit, nothing about the parking brake. He said he would get back to me(even though its against the law here in AZ). Who knows if he actually will. Who knows...I hope someone figures it out soon...

Re: 08' navigation system

Ground red wire from ebrake, cut green wire to fuse box,cut purple wire on back of sns (Purple Wire... It's in the connector w/o the Blue wire) and add switch for speed sensor. Turn switch off to watch dvds and have control of things that go grey after moving.

Re: 08' navigation system

Disclaimer: Be Careful. Disconnect the battery before you start. If you break your nav system doing this... well, you did it wrong.

Helpful Links: Toyota Hiring Harness Diagram - Look at the '87+ one (duh). Someone posted the old one somewhere else, kinda threw me off.
Line Output Converter- This is what I used

Steps:
1) Pull out headunit. (If you can't get this far, stop, seriously, get someone else to do it)
Picture of back of HU (haven't found a good one anywhere else)

Plugs you'll use Left to Right...
[Left Most Plug]: 12v+ ignition wire used for trigger wire
[Next]: Rear Speaker Wires
[Empty]
[Next]: Contains Purple Wire to cut and put switch for Nav fix.
[Biggest Plug on Right]: Not used

[Top Plug]: Has red parking brake wire to be grounded, and green wire to be cut (Also only for Nav fix.)

2) You can go any which direction you want here, but lets just start with wiring the line output converter.
You need to/should tap into the rear speakers, so following the Wiring Harness Diagram above, find the Rear Right/Left speaker wires.

For you lazies it's in the plug with 5 wires:
White - Rear Right -
Red - Rear Right +
Yellow - Rear Left -
Black - Rear Left +

The Line output converter comes w/ a book for where to plug in each thing, but again:
A5 - Left+
A6 - Left-
A7 - Right+
A8 - Right-

3) Wire the trigger (or whatever you wanna call it) wire. The one that'll tell the amp to turn on. It goes to the Gray 12V+ Ignition Wire on the 10 pin plug.

4) Run the Power Wire from the battery. There's part of the wiring harness running through the firewall above the gas pedal. Cut the nipple off the part in the engine bay side, and shove the wire through there.

5) RCA Cables. Connect em to the Line Out Converter and run em to the trunk. [No picture]

6) Ground. There are several bolts in the trunk near the spare tire. Pick one.

7) Plug in the amp/sub/etc & test.

Re: 08' navigation system

Hello,

I just installed the Scion GPS nav unit in my 2009 Corolla (believe it or not), and it works great. Except for two things:

One: when playing my own mp3 disc (created on my computer), as soon as the vehicle starts moving, the radio no longer gives me access to navigate through the CD's folders. It also gray's out the little arrows at the far left and right sides...so I only have access to play the 4 songs that were listed at the bottom before I started driving. This can't be normal for the unit, can it? When I stop the vehicle, the arrows light up again to scroll to other mp3 tunes, and I can also navigate folders up or down again.

Two: the AUX icon on the "Mode" screen is grayed-out, and therefore I can not select this input. Even though the same harness that was originally plugged into the back of my Corolla (which included AUX capability) is now plugged into the back of my new Scion nav radio, the Scion unit does not recognize the AUX input. My Corolla's in-dash 3.5mm AUX input plug worked fine with my old factory radio. Again, ALL old harness plugs that were plugged into my old Corolla factory radio are now plugged into the back of my new Scion nav radio.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
