Can our boxes float? :P

k, not really a serious question, but i would just like to get it out there that my box has been really sad lately. In Fargo, we are notorious for flooding and this year is really really bad. Just last night we broke our record flood level of 40.1’ from 1897. Currently our river is at 40.48’ and is expected to hit 42 to possibly 43’ by the weekend. I believe the measurement is measured from the regular river level. And once the river reaches crest, it is expected to stay there for at least a week. Fargo does have permanent dikes to combat this, but they are no match for the biggest flood since 1897. Volunteer sandbaggers have been working almost 24/7 since last Friday to make somewhere around 2.5 to 3 million sandbags. I have skipped work twice this week and have sandbagged everyday except Tuesday until midnight at the earliest. Other volunteers are working around the clock to beat this. People are actually even getting sent to jail for being anywhere near the river unless you are sand bagging. They even sent a national cnn camera guy in jail because he was by the river and not contributing. they do this to eliminate as many problems as possible (altering the dikes whether accidental or on purpose). Many people have already lost their homes, but luckily both of our apartments look like they should be fine. We are currently moving into a new place so we have two places to worry about. Just a shout out to all the volunteers out there working their asses off. Thank you everyone for making this happen. And on top of this we had a blizzard on tuesday or wednesday so we have been fighting two natural disasters. bahhh. only in fargo I also included a few pictures of what this mess looks like. Thank you for reading

It probably will... for a while. Most modern cars won't seal up well enough to float- there are just too many ways for water to get into the cabin. You might want to switch to an original generation Beetle if you want to float! That was one of Hitler's design requirements when he mandated the creation of the "people's car." It had to float.

Did you come out ok? I've seen some flooding on the news.

Go check out the original orders for the "people's car." Hitler told Porsche to build it waaaay back in the 30s.

Re: Can our boxes float? :P

actually i beleive we may have hit crest last night at 40.81 feet which beat the 1897 record of 40.6 feet. we are not in the clear yet. we are supposed to have yet another blizzard on monday and who knows what that will do. water level is supposed to stay about this level for up to a week. so all we can do is hope the the water doesnt get any higher and that the dikes hold. there have been a few areas that the dike broke, but luckily my place is in a safe area. fingers crossed

yeah, its not fun, but what can you do? at first i was kinda pissed at the snow, but looking back, im glad it got really cold. it actually held back alot of moisture in the ground instead of melting. haha. thank you everyone for everything. its good to know that people express concern, even if they are complete strangers or if it has no effect on them. we have had alot of people rom out of town come to fargo just to help out. anywhere from Grand Forks (about an hour away) to spearfish south dakota (close to an eight hour drive) just to help. thank you everyone for the prayers and thoughts. you guys are awesome

Yeah, hope everyone up there stays safe. I know how it is to go through a major flood. I've lived on the Mississippi River my whole life and spent 8 hours a day for a week sandbagging during the great flood of 1993. So many people lost everything. My prayers to everyone in ND!
