Unhappy Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

Still having problems with 70+ on Hwy driving. The car still wants to drift from side to side and follow every grove in the road, it fights you when your driving and it doesn't until the tires get worn, in about 300 miles. The dealer is putting a 2nd pair of tires on after they were eating up at 1358 miles... They keep saying its aligned correct and everything is right but? They put on the TRD-springs, Struts, sway-bar and engine strut bar. The first set of tires went out after 345 miles from phoenix to Huntington beach, ca. They put new ones on there and coming back did the same thing??? They are now talking to TRD in So., Cal., to try to figure out whats up....

Has any one else had this problem with any lowering or strut changes???

thanks Danny

Yep, stock 16", Bridgestone Tire 205s. It didn't do it before they swapped out the springs and struts and sway bar???? TRD is now involved so who knows whats going to happen.

Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

i saw a service guide on this (my car pulled bad to the right when I bought it) and I found out that scion/toyota knew about it and even had a repair procedure for it.

Did you have the TRD products too? or just stock? Is there a posting of all the service bulletins?

thanks Danny

Unhappy Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

I have taken it to a dealer in Huntington Beach, they had it for two days while I was on my Vac, and a different dealer here in Phoenix AZ, and every one says they cant find anything wrong.... Yet I'm eating up tires, my 2nd new set of fronts are already showing wear .... TRD and Scion say that its fine no because they put new tires on so there is now problem....

I'm talking to a lawyer who deals with the Lemon law on cars and says they are going to pay, and then some. well see.

thanks Danny

Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

another thing you could try is having them remove one item at a time to find out which one is causing the problem start with the new shocks... i'm running trd springs (installed myself) and have no problems with alignment. i'm also running hotchkis sway bars front and rear (installed myself) and have no cupping or excessive wear on the tires... and i'm running 18x8 45's i'm going to point at the shocks.... and thats just me. but a lot of people have been running the trd springs with no problems... that, or improper installation. have they gone to another tire shop for the alignment? my wrx had the same problem and they finally took it to a tire place and payed them to verify their measurements... i hope this gets fixed for you!!!!

Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

if i were in your position, id take it somewhere besides a dealer, if you take it to a goodyear, they wont charge you to find out what the problem is...jus tell em that your cars eating up tires an you wanted em to check the alignment an what not to see if anything is wrong (dont mention all the stuff with the dealers) they wont charge you unless they find something and you want em to fix it...so let them find it, then take it back to the dealer and have them fix it, kinda sucks that you got the bridgestones tho... the eagle RSAs are sooo much nicer

Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

from ur description sounds like u have a camber problem most likely negative due to the drop, did u get a printout of ur alighnment specs after each alighn because it sounds like ur getting the run around. did the dealer replace ur lower shock bolts with ones of different size because that is the only way to adj camber issues, and if u dropped the car then ur a deffinatly in negative toe ( inside edge wear only).

Their is no adjustment for the rear axle unless u find aftermarket shims etc for camber but the rear should not be out even with a drop.

also the service guide is for all toyota scion veh's not just for new cars but also old high mileage cars not every car (even if their excatly the same) will drive straight even with the same angles their is to many outside variables road conditions, road crown, pavement type, tire type, sidewall consistcity (sidewall stiffness). the guide is simply to give technicians a procedure to follow for the fastest diagnosis and alighnment possible.

also i would not get to caught up with the lawyer i dont think u have much of a case since u alterd the suspension with performance products (even though it is trd) but who knows and good luck.

Cool Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

Thanks but these parts are all TRD Certified parts made for the xB 2008 offered by Scion as part of the New Car DEAL installed by a Toyota Certified mechanics.

I understand why its not working right thats what I'm telling the Dealers, they are the ones that cant fix it or correct it. Its all there specs there parts they put on, they are saying its set correctly, but its not...

My new tires are doing the same thing less than 200miles on them, they are having the Scion rep in-town next week and he wants to see the car so we'll see what they do. I will give them one more chance to fix it but I don't want to put my kids or my self in danger for bad tires caused by bad alignment.

thanks

Danny

Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

I personally would demand for my alighnment printout after the alighnment was completed because all toyota/scion dealers have that capabilty. My dealer requires a cust printout on all veh's. Then after i get that then i would ask for the specs off of TIS (toyota information sys) but technically they dont have to give them to u if they dont pm me.

i agree i would not drive the veh until the veh has a proper alighnment because it can be very dangerous, i also would demand for a rental veh until they can correct my veh they cannot send u out of the dealer knowing the veh was unsafe.

Cool Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

I think its me any car or truck that I have ever bought, New or used has had some kind of issues. I'm from Detroit and all my family works or worked for Ford or GM. If I don't buy GM or Ford something happens, grandpa is turning over in his grave.....

Ive been gone for over 20 years but the family curse is still here!

I love the xB but I have less then 2000 miles and this tire issue is just to much. I have seen the print outs and had others look at it, I need to find a shop that can see outside the box and make up a new setting for this car because its different than stock settings with these options for this car, is there any one that can still use there mind and fix cars, if they donut have the specs. My old shop teacher showed us how to use the Sun alignment machine we would set up the car to the cart and what ever hight it was, we didn't need the specs because you used the way the car sets. I'm just old school.

thanks Danny

Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

are you sure they didnt put TRD xB1 parts instead of xB2? It's wierd because your the only guy having this issue, out of the hundreds that have the TRD springs.
I would definately follow TT's recomendations, he's as qualified as they come with this sort of issue.

Was there any resolution from this issue? Would like an update since I'm considering the TRD stuff myself.

Re: Tracking Straight after TRD Shocks and springs?

I have spoken with many people all over the country and no one has had the same issue that I have. I love the car and I would get the TRD parts again I just would not get it from the same dealer here in town. I have Scion corp involved and looks like they are going to buy my car back. I will go order a new one, this time I'm getting the super charger and all the same parts, Springs, struts and sway bar with engine brace too.

I looks great the lowering springs dropped it quit a bit and I can hit a hwy off ramp at almost 70 and its sticking to the road, I work on getting some picks before I get a new on, Its white, with Wet Oakley seat covers, all windows tinted, rear spoiler, gloss white wheels, I love the car, my last trip from Phoenix to Newport Beach got 35-36 mpg, took it to the grand-canyon last week and got 34+ lots of big hills.

will let you know.

Danny

the tires are wearing on the outer edge, its a two inch patch every few inches
