2008 scion TRD rear sway bar issues

so i have a TRD rear sway bar on my car and it broke today and dragged about 1/2 a mile before i could pull over.... when i noticed it was cracking they said "come in tomorrow" which is today and my 75000 mile warrenty wont cover it even tho they said it would..... so i am in the mood to punch babys..... and the dealer will feel the wrath of me in about 45 min....... errrrr im mad.... so anyways has anyone else had this problem? its about 8000 miles old and it cracked there the bolt tabs are welded to the bar.... LMK

You aren't the only one who has had the problem, there are a known cases about this. I've had my trd sway bar for a year and a half and no problems so far *knock on wood*

Re: 2008 scion TRD rear sway bar issues

What is the 'real deal' on strut and sway bars. I read threads which tell you you MUST have both and have them match. Others say they just need the rear sway bar. Here they break (and I could imagine messing up you car from the bottom up!

My wife thinks we need a 'stiffer ride'. (We are VW folks by ride choice normally). I can see sway bars stiffening the body, but I would think you need stronger shocks to really stop the roll in a turn. So... what is the deal?

Re: 2008 scion TRD rear sway bar issues

the sway bar keeps it from swaying<--if thats a word,
when installed the sway bar helped ALOT with the "lean" while turning or making a "U" turn

OK - so the sway bar does help the car from dipping in a turn - OK.

How about JUST the rear??? (The front is technically NOT a sway bar).

Re: 2008 scion TRD rear sway bar issues

yeah.... that the only one i had and that was the only one toyota offered to me back in july of 2007.... most people just run the rear.... but if you have the rear its only doin like 50% of what it is made for, if you get front and rear.... game over, itll make a HUGE difference
