Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

My last three fillups:

27 MPG
29.65 MPG
32.06 MPG (Was at 350 miles when filled up, gas light JUST came on, filled 12.2 gallons I believe).

Was on a trip so mostly freeway (the first one was mixed however), but I was surprised at the mileage because of how hilly the drive was. In the next few weeks im switching to 0W-20 full syn oil (5w-20 dino in now from freebie dealer change) and with the warmer weather coming, things are looking up, even more!

Interesting to see with the oil and warmer temps how high I can get it. So far, 32.06 is my very best mileage, and yes, its done manually. My computer said 34.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

I finally got to put the first tank of gas in and got 25 mpg with all city driving, and a decently heavy lead foot, which is nice coming off of 22 mpg city in the Mini using premium. We'll see when I get some more miles on it, only at 246 right now.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

Took a small road trip this past weekend (160 miles hwy) & the guage was reading 33 mpg . The best it has ever read was 27 when I first got it, but usually I'm at 25 mpg. This was with me doing 65 mph w/ cruise control and very gusty winds.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

i noticed jahfakin said he added 4 psi to the front and 2 to the rear, thats not good for your tires... it'll cause them to wear prematurely in the middle, and it'll have a negative effect on your handling... you should have em at the factory rec psi

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

I have a stock xb2 with a 5 speed and just over 10,000 miles. If I drive conservative, I can get close to 31mpg, but usually it is between 27-28. Normal driving habits include 1st one off the line at all redlights and ~78 mph on interstate

its strange how some xB's get good gas mpg, like emc2 and others don't.
right now mine is consistant with 25.4 mpg.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

Well if you slow down it really does make a difference. I am now doing 60 in my 55 mph stretch and 70 in the 65 mph...these are 5 mph slower than I was doing. MPG jumuped up to 27.5 mpg. Got my wife to do the same and she saw a 3 mpg increase in her Camry.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

i forget the formula-but the power it takes to do 65 over 55 is alot and it takes more to do 75 over 65 ect-
thats why i think if the fed govt was doing its job they would go back to 55- people would just have to leave a few minutes earlier, yah i know that aint happening-lol

also i have noticed if i have it in mpg mode- i can let up on the pedal a bit without a loss of speed and the mpg goes up-
it was easy to stretch the mpg with my corolla, i could tell when it was running at max mpg on the highway by a low hum the motor would make when i would back off the pedal when at speed-if i drove with the hum i could get over 41-42 highway, when i ignored it doing the same speed i would get 38-39

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

I've noticed too that the computer always shows better mileage than I actually get. If I average 28mpg on a tank, the computer will show 31-32.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

Alright, this is my first post. I bought an '05 Xb about a month ago and it is still stock, for now.
My city driving I get about 27 mpg average.
I did a 450 mile road trip doing 70 to 85 the whole time and got about 30 mpg.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

Just got 27.7 mpg on my last tank...and that is unadjusted...corrected it would have been better than 29 mpg.

Slightly over inflating your tires isn't going to make a big difference in handling and wear is not an issue if you rotate your tires regularly (every 5K). if you know what you are doing, it's a non-issue.

My millage went up to around 26 MPG on avg. Since this is my first really auto tranny, it took some time to get use to it. But once I figured out how to pass on the highway (i'm always passing BTW) without getting the car to downshift, that helped a lot.

basically, I had to smooth out my driving technique....reminds me of my old autocross days, when the old timers would drill it into my head that smooth driving is the key to getting great times. don't over do it with the brakes, easy on the gas, don't over tax the suspension, let the momentum pull you through the corners.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

I somehow managed 36 mpg on my last tank. God only knows how.

Not that I'm complaining, lol. But before that my average was hovering around 30.
