Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

Yes 19 inch rims are going to be heavier than stock 16s unless you got some forged rims and spent a fortune. Not only is it affecting your MPG but its affecting your braking, acceleration, and handling.

The Benefits of Correct Air Pressure - Discount Tire,

paragraph 4.

Fashstyle, depends on the air pressure. A low profile tire, sidewall, distributes weight differently than it's taller counterpart.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

Well with my tire pressure now a couple PSI higher per a pm I got here I am now getting better gas mileage. Last 3 tanks were: 27.26, 28.5 and yesterday 29.24. I am VERY happy with better than 29 mpg.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

Yeah i dont know whats up with your XB have you checked your tire pressure?

When i got my XB i would ocassianaly smell radiator fumes after i got out from the car, i took it back to the dealer twice and they told me they contacted there engineers in L.A and never heard of anything like it, because there is no leaks. they told me it must be the long life radiator fluid that i get a wiff of when i get out of the car, but im not buying this bull can any body help me out?

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

The least expensive way I found to improve my mpg was to check my tire pressure. All 4 tires were at different pressures with the lowest at 22psi. I picked up 4.5 mpg (local driving 25-50 mph) by setting all 4 to 35psi. I'm now getting 30.5 (no hwy).

It is a plain vanilla '05 with stock 185/60/15 tires/wheels but I think the principal applies to 2nd gen also.

I had the same problem with a pickup that drove me nuts until I found that the overflow tube on the radiator neck had not been securely fastened after a shop repair. Check to see if it is tight or just replace it - a couple of feet of drain tube is cheap.

You could also pressure test check your radiator cap. Check first to see that its the correct pressure and that its seated correctly.

My driving is nearly all highway. I have a 32 mile commute to work and nearly all of it is on 4 lane highways. One section is taken at 60 mph and the other at 68 mph. I work on top of a mountain so 15 min of the drive to work is going up...on the other hand 15 min of the commute home is going down and thus using less fuel.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

Tire pressure is a player. There is also a difference, auto to manual & summer to winter gas formulas. It seems that this year's warm weather mix is not so good here in the NE. Grasschopper, how has your mileage changed? I've lost a little from last year - not so much that it's a problem -2mpg. 2008 auto 18's w/225/40 38psi. I'm going to 40 psi - at 40 there is the same tread ( flat ) as 38..... There are several people here that are at 45 ( Mini's w/225/40 18's )....... I'll let you know

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

I don't know that I see a huge change in the winter...I see a bigger change from one brand to the next. I have a BP Visa and was only using their gas for quite a while...then I had to get another brand because I was out and wasn't close to a BP station...I got 2-3 MPG better economy that tank so I stuck with them for several months. I have recently noticed that BP has new signage with "Invigorate addative" on it so I tried it and saw no drop off from the other brand so I am back to BP (5% cash back for those purchases so...). I don't know if they really changed anything or if it was something else...but I am getting 27-29 mpg now with BP gas or the other gas.

Re: What kind of gas mileage are people getting?

"Invigorate additive" Can I drink this? I could use some.

I'm going on a long trip Friday that involves city & highway. I'll compare with the same from last year. As of now the weather will be almost identical.
