Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

Yea, actually I hadn't thought about the fact that the CAI could be that loud. I had that and the exhaust installed at once, so I didn't hear the comparison between having just one or the other installed.

I've got a bunch of pictures of my car up here. I still haven't taken a shot of the CAI yet, but obviously it's going to look like yours, only the car is BCM.

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

V8 loud is good...as long as it sounds deep and throaty...and not loud and annoying...

I can't wait to get mine...I think i'm going to go with TRD CAI and Borla dual exhaust...

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

It's not an option through Scion directly. My dealer sent it out to a custom upholstry place that they deal with to do it. I didn't realize they could do that either except that I saw one in the showroom that had it and asked about it. I would assume that most dealers would do that for you, but of course, they're going to charge you a premium over the cost of getting it done. Mine cost $1400.

I love that leather. It is simple and as such looks like a factory job.

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

I have heard that water can get in and bog the engine down. Is this a myth? have any of you with it installed had any problems with water? Thanks

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

As long as you avoid driving through more than 12" of standing water, it should never be a problem. If you plan on driving through deeper water, avoid CAIs or better yet, get a Jeep.

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

No patience required, it is a valid question. I just don't happen to believe that normal driving conditions could ever cause the mythological CAI "hydro-locking" that HAI short ram fans like to talk about.

If you take a good look at the front corner of the DS engine bay, there simply is no way for more than a few drops of water to get onto the filter of a CAI unless the vehicle is submerged in water deep enough to saturate the filter. IMO you'd have to drive through some very deep water to cause hydro-locking with an XB2 and CAI. I hope this helps.

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

Recieved, and installed, and I wouldn't worry too much about water, the intake body sits inboard of the vent opening and about 2 inches higher. So unless youre testing the water tightness of your xB2 you won't have an issue

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

i just installed my trd cai and i am inpressed over all. i also modified the trd cai removing the secondairy filter ( charcoal filter) this filter is used for emission's when u shut ur engine of their is a little bit of gas left in the intake (since this engine is not direct injected) and while sitting the fuel fumes back up through the intake and the charcoal filter is surpposed to keep the fumes from leaving the intake.i dont know if it helped any because i first installed it with the sec filter out. just a thought

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

I just ordered my TRD CAI and have a question. Once installed how difficult is accessing the air cleaner for cleaning?

Thanks,
Joe

I'd love to see some dyno numbers. Like before and after install.

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

As for cleaning the filter, I would assume that you need to do the steps all over again to get to the box...which means removing the tire and inside wheel well coverings. This crossed my mind when I installed mine, but it's okay, cause you only need to clean it at intervals of 50,000...or if in dusty areas, 30,000...which isn't too bad...

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

Thanks for the update. I live in NM and it can get a bit windy here in the desert. I guess it isn't too much effort to clean it a bit more often as I've heard that a complete install can take as little as 30 minutes.

Thanks again,
Joe

Re: TRD CAI Just released!!!

If you guys want to save some money on a CAI or SRI for your 08 xB2's you should looking into buy a MAF adapter plate. Using this will allow you to use a tC CAI or SRI and you can buy them at www.randode.com. Randy is on this forum and is a good source of information for both gen xB's...
