something missing?

i was washing my xB for the first time today and when i looked under the hood i noticed there was water on either side of the engine compartment and some on the battery.

then i noticed that there are no sealing rubber pieces on the left or right side where the hood meets that area - there are holes to hold them on, so it looks like they should be there??

i have had them on all cars i have owned, so was wondering what was going on...

do you have them on your xB?

it seems kinda lame that they are not there as water can get all over the battery and other stuff when it rains!

i am heading out for lunch and am going by the dealership to take a look under the hood of another xB - will post what i find...

what is missing are 2 approximately 15" long pieces of rubber that lay in a track on either side of the compartment, with a hole at each end of track to hold the rubber in place...

i had them on my Solara and my Sable before that, so i assumed they were standard...

No, most cheaper cars don't have them. Only more expensive cars. The only car i have ever had with them is my 300ZX. No real need for them.

Re: something missing?

You shouldn't have a problem with rain getting in there, just water if you are squirting directly into the gap when you wash the Box.

If you really feel like you want something in the gap you can go to Home Depot and buy some black rubber weather stripping and stick it on there. Won't look so hot though.

that is what happened - i was washing it and when i lifted the hood it was pretty wet - i guess i must have shot a lot of water in when rinsing it off

Re: something missing?

No worries, I've sprayed down my whole engine compartment w/ water to clean it and it doesn't hurt anything unless you soak it.

Re: something missing?

wouldnt more hot air get trapped inside the engine bay if you seal it? (unless the hot air can go underneath the car...)

the engine compartment would not be sealed, they only are about 15-18" long and would go in the track on upper right/left side of engine bay...

all the air blows in from the front of vehicle...
