Has anybody use the SLR chip and if so is it worth it?

Re: SLR performance chip

You mean this? SCION XB 2004-2008

In that case its bullshit. These are all a scam. For one it says 04-08 which means they don't know anything about the xB change in design (different engines), 50+HP without a any sort of dyno more bs, and last its nothing more than a resistor that trys to trick the ECU to thinking there is more air coming in so it adds fuel.

I'm just a newbie xB2 owner, but doing a little investigation, none of the "reliable" chip manufacterers for other platforms make a chip for scions (yet?).

Re: SLR performance chip

All the "chips" are the same. What you need is something to program the ECU like a piggy back or a stand alone. But then you probably won't see more than 1-10 hp with just tuning.

Whats your horsepower goal?

Re: SLR performance chip

Usually things are too good to be true. Better to ask then get screwed out of 70 dollars for a 2 dollar resistor.

Re: SLR performance chip

Oh,
If it was that easy to boost power and economy, the manufacturer would do it.
Why?
Those are the two "holy grail" elements in cars right now and engine power band programming is a balance between the two. Anything that increases one at little to no loss in the other is good for them.
That said, the other two elements for them to consider is cost and manufacturing complexity (installation on the assembly line). If it is cheap and simple to install PLUS adds both power and economy, Toyota would have done it at the factory (and benefited their own product).

The only stuff that benefits BOTH power and economy, or at least one of them at little to no cost of the other should be either expensive or complex to install (or is destructive to the long-term life of the vehicle).

So, if it has huge promises, low cost, and ease of install, I would seriously doubt it is legit (as a "rule of thumb").

Back to main thread:
Also, isn't the stock computer design also an issue in this matter too . . .

Re: SLR performance chip

You could install an Apexi S-AFC II and then go to a shop to have it dyno tuned and you might pick up a few HP. They are found pretty cheap on e-bay around 100-200 dollars.

Anything that promises more HP and better fuel ecomony more than likely is a scam. Because your going to need more fuel to get more HP unless your making more use of the fuel.
