It's a special material. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/detail.aspx?ID=3444 Before this your right! With conventional filters, the oil would last, become contaminated, and the filter would have to be changed. Check it out! http://www.amsoil.com/ |

| Re: Oil change time!!!! Full synthetic Moblie 1 or Royal purple . Are the only two brands of oil I used, the mileage in between changes 3500 to 5000 will vary on the stop and go as the more hwy driving less changes. I gotten great results from both .

| Re: Oil change time!!!! on the subject of oil changes - and this is really going to single me out as a complete newb at this - but does the TRD oil filter make ANY difference if you're doing regular oil changes between 3-5K? |

But this is not true with all engines that use a timing chain. The xB2 manual says to change the oil every 5K....so I'll change it when it's at least 5K (probably a little longer). | why the heck would a timing belt vs a timing chain make a difference on oil life?

| Re: Oil change time!!!! Yeah! I am with DV... Same question.
I thought about getting the "OEM" oil filter from the dealer and... (probably someone is gonna put me at shame for saying this since you are all fighting between Amsoil and Mob1 but... here it goes...) I thought about using 'Quaker State' for oil!
I've always used QS on both of my past cars (1999 Eclipse and 1996 Yukon) and I've always got the "OEM" Oil Filters (Mitsubishi and AC Delco respectively) changing them every 3,000 miles without excuse. Honestly never had a problem with either the Eclipse nor the Yukon as far as motor goes...
Now that I see you all arguing about this 'X' vs.'Y' Oil it seems to me it'll be one heck of an issue for me now... Mob1 or Amsoil? I got a question though... I noticed that on that PDF it all about >Sync Oil<. My question is... True or False that just because they make the "BEST" SYNC Oil doesn't mean that they make the best REGULAR oil? I wasn't planning on going Sync at all... boy... things are getting complicated... Sync or Regular? Amsoil or Mob1... QS or X Brand...
In any case... I have 3,648 miles to decide what to do with my first Oil change... Hope you guys help out on making a good decision...
BTW, Kev... What Oil are you using? |

BTW, Kev... What Oil are you using? | I've always used Castrol prior to becoming an Amsoil dealer! It's a great "dino" oil. The OEM Toyota filter is pretty good also. Both will cover you for 3 to 5K miles. The benefits of sync. lubricants are reduced wear, reduced temperatures, and extended drain intervals, just to name a few. | Re: Oil change time!!!! I don't trust dealers I know people that work at them and they will steal anything they get their hands on. Also they don't give a shit about your car. They will do burn outs and drive all crazy in your car. I just skipped the free oil changes and did them myself. |

| Re: Oil change time!!!! I was offered 2 freebies too. I went in for the first one, it took so long that I could have made my own oil faster! (1hr 45 min) I never went back for the second. My time is too valuable. I go to the 10 minute place now, and don't have to get dirty, or hot or have to figure out what to do with the old oil. I sit in air conditioning, have a complimentary cookie and coffee and they throw in a free carwash too. BTW, I just converted to Mobile 1 a week ago. |

| Re: Oil change time!!!! did my first oil change today-3514 miles-
all i could find was pennzoil in 5-20 that wasnt synthetic -
took it out on the highway and noticed the rpms for 65mph dropped about 100-from 2500 to 2400-
they must have had a japanese strongman install the filter-ive never ever ever had such a hard time getting one off- |

| Re: Oil change time!!!! My ancient Previa tells me when to change the oil.... about every 6-8K, it'll light up. I usually don't get around to it till about 12K. When I finally change the oil, it always looks like honey, and I only use the cheapest crud and filters I can find. It's got about 225K on the clock, AND it still runs like a top. Never had any internal motor problems, AND it gets 26MPG still.
SO
Just HOW is expensive synth/semi-synth oil supposed to help??? I mean, besides making the oil companies rich? :-)
I mean, the idea of buying an economy car and putting $8/quart oil in it leaves me semi-speechless. |

| Re: Oil change time!!!! Synthetic oil doesn't break down like normal motor oil and it protects alot better than regular oil. I would never think of doing oil changes at 12K thats just waiting too long on regular oil. I buy 5 qts of Mobile 1 at Wal-Mart for 25 dollars so thats 5 dollars a qt. |
