anyone on the juice?

I have an 08 xb automatic. I was thinking of ideas for hp gain. I know the xb isn't a race car, but I'm just looking to have some fun, maybe beat a few tcs. I don't have experience with nos and am doing some research now. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I am having trouble finding anyone that has a nos system on a toyota 2.4l with an auto trans. I understand that it could throw off shift points, but what about using the selective 4 speed node and shifting each gear at a higher rpn that normal driving? Thanks for the help

Re: anyone on the juice?

Are you talking Nos the name brand or are you talking nitrous oxide? eighty8customs (VIP Style box) has a nitrous kit on his not sure the brand name and I believe he has an auto. I have never used nitrous with an auto tranny (never owned an auto) so I couldn't tell you anything about shift points I don't see how it would throw them off though.

Do some more reading before you put nitrous on your car. I would only run a 50 shot or 75 pushing it on a stock engine.

I have some better links on my home computer I will send you.

Re: anyone on the juice?

I meant nos as a general term for a nitrous oxide system, not any brand in particular ( zex, nos, nitrous express.....) I was thinking of a 50 or 75 shot. I had also read about progressive controllers that gradually introduce the nitrous untill fully open instead of blasting it all at once. I will definitely check out the places you have mentioned and I appreciate the help.

Re: anyone on the juice?

You should look into electronic bottle opener (your going to mount it in the back right?) so you don't have to go to the back and open and close it all the time. Also you will need a safety switch for when your WOT that is the only time it will activate the nitrous. Also a way to retard your timing when your spraying is needed. I'd also get a A/F gauge so you can see your not running lean, it will give you piece of mind.

Take a look on your local craigslist and try and find a used setup and add to it everything else you will need.

Re: anyone on the juice?

I definitely check out cl for a kit. I will absloutely have my tank tested before install. The electronic bottle opener sounds like a good idea also, but I may just take the tank out untill I go on a cruise or something. I don't need my wife burning up all my nitrous going to get groceries. I really want this for fun. My xb is a daily driver so reliability is a big factor, that's why I'm doing as much research and trying to get as much info as I possibly can. That's another question I have. I know its very general but here it is. How much reliability will you sacrafice with a nitrous kit. I know there are many variables like 25-100+ shot, pressure switches and more. I would like to do a reliable 50 shot with a progressive controller. If that sounds right. How necessary is a blow off valve? I kind of want to keep the nitrous a secret, so when all my tc buddies get left behind they won't know what hit them. Thanks again for the help, ideas and advive. Suggestions are always welcome on tank placement, brand and anything else. Thanks again for the help

Re: anyone on the juice?

let me start with answerinng a few of your questions

How necessary is a blow off valve? Not need as you do not have a turbo or a supercharger so no excess air pressure is noy needing to be removed. You will want a purge valve however this is what makes the system work at its peak by clearing out any air in the system. all it is is another solinoid that you hook up in series with everything else and hooked up to a button in the car.

Next a progressive control is not needed with a 50 shot. it is nice but seriously you are going to tune it for very small amounts of spray until you get to the full 50 shot this in my opinion is not needed not enough nitrous being sprayed to warrent its use

Nitrous kits are universal the only thing that make then tune different in each car is what jets are used to make each desired amount of horsepower out put. and i would go with a wet kit as fo it supplies its own fuel from the fuel rail.

Nitrous will not change your shift point in an automatic you will go through the entire gear when your foot is on the floor like any other time it will just go fast through the gears

Get a bottle warmer and bottle psi gauge this ensures the same bottle pressure every time you go to use it.

You are able to turn nitrous on and off so is you have a remote bottle opener and you leave the switch off you can leave it in the car all the time.

Next if you wanna be sneaky i say get multiple 1# bottles and put them under the cargo cover in the back by the spare tire.

Re: anyone on the juice?

ZEX makes a great kit for the Xb's and the product quality is very well too.
