| Re: Windshield check in... Slightly off topic - bought my box used and I'm guessing the windshield had been replaced. Now when driving 25-45 mph I get a whistle that I think comes from the top middle. I looked and didn't see anything, but I am no expert. Other day it was pouring down rain - hit a bump in the road and a puddle came splattering down on my dash. Any idea how to get this looked at? I plan on asking the dealer at next oil change, but looking for other ideas as well. |

| Re: Windshield check in... I've had my xb 4.5 years, and I'm on #5, but a few of them were bad for a while before replacing, sandblasted, chips, cracks, etc. The guy at safelite autoglass told me the angle is extreme enough that they receive "lots of business from the xb's". Ha ha, probably the only downside of owning an xb. |

| Re: Windshield check in... Bought my xB with 21k in March '08.
Reached 50k in May '09 and had my windshield replaced twice within that same month. I'm at 56k now and have been successful in staying away from tractor trailers and ***** hondas on the highway who wanna show off and kick up rocks at my windsheild. Gotta love it lol.
Oh and I hit a bird two days ago, I think there's a chip but I heard about a compound they can use to fill the chip instead of replacing the entire windsheild. Might have to try that out lol |

| Re: Windshield check in... I'm on number two in a 2005. The first one lasted about 2 years and a van going the opposite direction threw a tiny rock. The rock hit below the wiper just above where the glass meets the plastic and cracked halfway up the drivers side. I didn't get it fixed right away and when it froze that winter it then proceded to crack halfway across the window towards the passenger side. Still didn't get it fixed for like a year and a half. I sat leaning towards the passenger door so I could see around the dang crack. Very difficult with a manual. When I finally had it replaced it was so strange being able to sit up straight in the car seat again. |

| Re: Windshield check in... yikes. that's a lot of windshields. i bought the car about 2 years ago and so far i've only gotten one crack on the very first week from a rock that was hurled by the wind on a super-windy day, on an open interstate with NO car around. when i'm driving on the highway i also try to not be near/behind large semis and big SUVs as well. |

| Re: Windshield check in... i really don't know why people have these problems. When you get a chip in a windshield take it to safelite, almost every insurance company covers chip repairs for free. I haven't had any issues with ours. I had a chip put in my avalanche windshield. I called the insurance company while i was still falling the school bus that did it and he said take it to safelite its covered and 30 mins later it was fixed and not a single problem since. I'm kinda wondering if these broken windshields are the result of people not wanting to get chips fixed or just negligence.
Were still rollin with the original glass in our 06 with not even a nick in it. Seriously its not the semis fault either. I drive truck for a living and if handed out cash everytime i heard that i chipped your widnshield, I'd be broke. All tires pick up rocks even car tires. Most chipped glass is a result of tailgating cause the stone has no where to venture to cause your to close. I swear if people would slow down and pay attention to there actions they would notice the consequences will be less. Just my .02 worth but 10 windshields in 4 years, your doing something wrong and its not the car or the glass......Its you! |

| Re: Windshield check in... #3 for me.
first = 15 miles of debris on the freewayy and the person infront of me ran over a large chunk of rubber like a moron and lunched it at my windshield...
second = inproper install, molding around the top corners was stretched so bad that there was nearly a 3/4" gap on the top corners that were wide open.
Third going strong. i rally sport my box about 1 every couple of weeks and hit bumps rather harshly ALOT. suspension is stock EXCEPT for all the bushings, they're all poly. i know stiff suspension systems can cause stress cracks but i know 80mph down a road and hitting heavy pot holes would be worse and hasn't happened yet.
recommendation = if you're in a hot area and have your AC going. make sure you don't have it going on your windshield as the temp extremes can cause stresses on the glass to be more extreme and cause cracks to happen more often on stiff suspensions. |

| Re: Windshield check in... Just had another stress crack form in #4. My xB has a wheelchair conversion, so the rear suspension is beefed up and it rides like a truck. The 17" wheels don't help either, I'm starting to think that's the problem. The other xB I have is on stock rims, no mods, and factory glass at 100k. All but one have been stress cracks. A bit of history.
- Factory glass, stress crack @ 44k miles
- Replacement under warranty, rock chip @ 46k miles
- Safelite glass, stress crack after 26 days
- Replacement (free) glass, stress crack after 5months
- New glass coming tomorrow, hopefully free again
So far though I've only paid $112, all the others were warranty work. |
