Clock Spring Help ASAP!

What's up fellow clubxb members. I was working on the latest mod of switching out to an NRG wheel with a MOMO hub. I saw the write up and was able to mod the hub to fit over the connectors on the clock spring. However when making some adjustments to getting the wheel perfectly placed with the wheels straight I pulled off the hub before pulling the airbag wires back through the hole in the hub. The scsi cable inside of the clockspring was yanked out. I was not able to figure out off the top of my head how the cable should be routed within the clock spring. If someone has a diagram showing how to route it I would be willing to fix it and put it back on. I do know there are a bunch of members running aftermarket wheels that have no intention of going back to stock and ever running their clock spring again (NRG and Sparco hub users). If you have a clock spring that would fit an 05 in good working order I would be willing to buy it off of you for a reasonable price. If anybody has a diagram or a clock spring for sale I would love to hear from you. The VSC and Trac light are driving me crazy.

Regarding the airbag light I have been looking everywhere locally for 3 Ohm resistors and am not having any luck. I thought Radio Shack would be the place but they do not have 3 Ohm. If anyone can offer any insight that too would be appreciated.

You can plug the resistrs before the clockspring: DIY: Airbag Delete Resistors (underdash)
The assembly is not serviceable so i don't think you can find pics or instructions on putting it together. But those i saw have the ribbon cable just coiled up inside exactly like a clockspring. In case the assembly is broken and you can't put it together just cut the ribbon cable out and install whaterver is left so you can retain the steering wheel position sensor. I think it's not connected with ribbon cable- you only need the plastic housing to rotate for the sensor to work.
Resistors: FS:SO CAL: fairing, adapters, resistors, wing, emblem, spacers

Re: Clock Spring Help ASAP!

Thanks for the info. I am sure it is as easy as winding the flat cable back up inside just like a clockspring, but that is the problem, I don't know how a clockspring is wound. The unit itself seems to be in good condition besides having some of the ribbon pulled out of place.

I would really like to get it back to how it was. That way if I ever want to put it back to stock to sell I can have it as orignal as possible. Your ideas sound legit and as a last resort I will cut the cable.

I did see the post with the resistors for sale. I have one just like it and need another. I think that $25 is a little steep for what they are. Maybe that is the going rate since 3 Ohm resistors are apparently hard to find at a store.

I did find some clock springs for TC's on Ebay. They look to have the same connectors. From what I know of TC's they seem to have the same steering wheels. In case this is the only place I can find a clockspring for sale does anyone know if the TC clockspring and xb clockspring are the same?

The clockspring units are NOT servicable. Once they come apart they are junk, sorry. I'm a tech and watch other techs do that all the time. THe boss always loves it.

Some are the same, depending on the year. PN# for tC and xB is 84306-33080. But some xB's use 84306-52060. I think the xB's with audio controls in the steering wheel are same with tC. Early models without audio are the ones that probably different.
Looked for resistors on line? Try Wholesale Electronics if there is no Fry's Electronics in your area.

Re: Clock Spring Help ASAP!

Thanks for the info. It is good to know that they are not able to be fixed. I was hoping to be able to but at the same time it seemed like it could be frustrating.

That makes sense about the audio controls with the tC/xB. Since I have an 05 I do not have the controls so I guess I need a different one. I would think that someone would have one for sale. Hopefully someone will contact me soon with one for sale!

I have looked for resistors online. I didn't look at it too in depth but what I found is that you had to buy the resistors in bulk in a decent quantity. I didn't want to have to have a ton of extras. There is not a Frys in the Twin Cities unfortunately. Maybe I will just have to get them online.

The Spiral Cable assembly is not repairable, I know mine is broken. What worries me is that you mentioned that your TRAC and VSC light is on meaning that your steering angle sensor may be off calibration. If that's the case you're going to have to take it in to have the traction control system calibrated.

Re: Clock Spring Help ASAP!

Factory Repair Manual has instructions on calibrating in Brake Control Section. If i remember correctly they even tell how to do it without special tools.
