| Switchblade key Hi everyone.
i am not sure if this has been posted before because i cant get the search function to work, but i was wondering if the make a switchblade key for an 05 xb. i havent found one yet, but is there any switchblade or flip key that has a blank that would be compatible?? even if i could modify something to work. Thanks in advance |

| Re: Switchblade key I think it would be possible. It'd take some creativity, but it would be do-able.
I have a Mazda5 and it has a switchblade key. The actual blank is an insert and if held in with what looks like a setscrew or a roll pin.
I don't have a Scion key, so I don't know if the head end is the right size thickness, but if it's too big, it could probably be ground down & made to work.
Or if you're not that creative, you could always go to eBay |

| Re: Switchblade key I bought that one on ebay...and there was one complication, the key blank was too wide. It wouldn't fit in my ignition or doors. I figured I could always trim off some of the key...but I was never that creative, hah. |

| Re: Switchblade key i did get the one off of ebay and it was the right blank, but stupid me, i had to have it cut that night, so i had it cut at wal-mart. i have never had any luck with them cutting keys. DON'T GET KEYS CUT AT WAL-MART. so i went to the dealer and he cut me a new one for free... i took that home and ground it down until it fit in the holder and now i have a flip key. thanks for the info everybody... |

| Re: Switchblade key Sadly, the buttons do not work. that would be awesome if it would, but the one i got did not have functioning buttons. the way i got the blank out of mine was just two screws. if you flip the key open about half way, there are two very small screws to take out, and from there, it just slides out. no need to take it apart completely just be carful which blank you get. the guys on this thread suggested a key blank from the new yaris and thats what i asked for and thats what worked. You should post pictures of yours when you are finished too. Good luck |

| Re: Switchblade key Sorry, I'm obscenely late to the party here. The ILCO number for the blank is indeed a TR47. Pretty much every Toyota out there uses that style blank. Some with a transponder some without. Only difference between a Toyota branded blank and an aftermarket one is the Toyota blanks are steel and VERY hard to drill/cut if you need to. They last a hella long time though.
Yes, I said hella.
As noted before, always get your keys cut by a professional. It makes a difference.

| Re: Switchblade key ordered mine, I will start playing with how to wire in the internals for making the buttons work this weekend. Shouldn't be to difficult, just some trimming and gluing maybe. If it works there will be a DIY posted if I like the way it works. |
