Scion xB Interior There's no arguing that there's plenty of room inside the Scion xB interior. Which is why the Scion xB interior deserves an entire forum of it's own. Here you can discuss any customizing you have done to the interior of your Scion xB.

Project Gutted: xBCreep Interior Progress Thread

Got started intalling an underbody light kit the other night when I got the urge to gut the inside and start with my interior makeover. Since I plan to do (or at least have a hand) in doing everything myself who knows how long it'll take to complete. Have some different ideas floating around my head that'll definately be different in an xB so stay tuned!

First things first is to tidy up all wiring and sound deaden the floor/rear wheel wells (hatch door has already been done). Also wanted to install new carpet, but don't think there's enough time before nationals next weekend, so that'll have to wait a bit.

It'll definately be slow going since there will be a huge learning curve with things. Just have to get the deadning done along with some other little things this week, and get things back together before nationals. After that the fun begins! Plenty of pics to come......

Nice start Mike, it's going to feel so much better with all the sound deadening material in there. Can't wait to see what's going to happen.

Re: Project Gutted: xBCreep Interior Progress Thread

Quick shot of the sound deadener that was installed today.
With all the different materials/ options out there I decided to go with Cascade Audio's VB3.5 and VB4.5 sound barriers for the floor pan/wheels wells. VB4.5 is a composite material with a vinyl mass top/foam core bottom while the VB3.5 is a sandwiched item that has a neoprene top/ foam core bottom with a lead layer sandwiched between the two to act as a "wall' stopping sound waves from entering.

Two reasons for this material:
1. IMO the floor pan suffers from different frequency "road noises" entering the cabin from below instead of resonating noises from vibrating panels, so mass loading the floor with regular butyl based materials to stop vibrating panels don't do much . The sound barriers absorb/ dissipate the noise frequencies coming from underneath the car helping keep the cab quiet instead of trying to stop the floor from vibrating.

2. It makes no sense to use asphalt or butyl based material on the floor pan due to the weight of seats and persons. When these materials get hot they soften up, so when weight is applied (people stepping into car, speaker boxes, etc.etc.) the material "moves" kinda squirting out in all directions from where the weight is placed. This can casue gaps/uneven dampening areas where the material is thinner from moving.

These are my ideas that I've gathered from researching all the different materials. Let me know what you think as i like to hear other's opinions on stuff like this.

Well I still need one more sheet to complete the floor, so I'll post pics when it's finished next Saturday.

Re: Project Gutted: xBCreep Interior Progress Thread

I totally agree about the butyl deadners not doing much on the floor. The floor (back seats forward)was the 1 part of the vehicle that just didn't give any noticeable improvements from what I could tell anyway. The rear trunk area did get substantially less exhaust note however so I would continue with that area.

I have some more wiring to run through the front area that I didn't have on hand when I ripped everything out, so I will be adding a couple layers of ensolite to the front area when I run that.

Good luck with the build

Yeah it was on my list of things to do this week, but don't think I'll get to it since this is taking longer than expected. Too much stuff has popped up, so I've been working in limited time. Do have templates for the sides of the holder made up though. They just gotta be cut out and fine tuned.

You heading out to nationals this weekend?

More pics coming on Thursday! Work messed up and didn't schedule me, so I'm taking the day off . The price is comparable to Dynamat extreme shop packs. Dynamat runs about 200-250 for 36 sq ft online. The Cascade VB3.5 is 120 and the VB4.5 is 79 for about 14 sq foot at online stores. Of course it'll be a little bit more expensive if you buy at your local shop. The VB3.5 is good for complex curved areas (transmission hump, wheel wells etc. etc.) cause it forms to the shape with the lead layer. The VB4.5 is good for flat areas as it lays pretty flat. According to Cascade's site the only performance difference between the two is 1 decibel, so use as much of the VB4.5 as possible. To save some cash I used a little of both and mixed/ matched them. I also bought a sheet of VB2 to seal the seams between pieces.

What did you use in your car DoubleC?
