Help painting pillars...

Ok I am done with the grey pillars all around the box and think it would look all black. Now what paint best matches the stock black plastic? I was thinking Rust-oleum satan black so its not very glossy like the black gloss. Aslo should I sand them down or can I just primer with a plastic primer and then paint

Re: Help painting pillars...

Not sure what would match the black plastic, but for sure sand before painting for better adhesion. Do you want the smooth look, or want to keep the texture? If you want to keep the texture first wash it really good with a degreaser. Sand w/ 400grit or a 3m red sanding pad. Next wash really good with the degreaser again. Spray with an adhesion promoter to help the paint stick to the plastic. Bulldog adhesion promoter is a good brand. Spray with a flexible primer, wetsand w/ 400 grit to knock out any junk in there, spray the basecoat, and then clear if wanted. If you want the smooth look just sand all the texture off till it's smooth 150 grit, and then follow it up w/ 400 grit to take out all the scratch marks from the 150.

be sure to primer first. i made the mistake of doing that with my center console part that goes around the stereo. i had to go back, sand everything down, and primer it. but it worked and came out good.
