| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control Sorry I know this thread is old but has anyone had any issues with trying to install a strut bar after installing the cruise control?
I currently have not installed either one, but I am looking to get both. Looking at the mounting point for the module (Step #2 in the instructions) there looks like there might be a space issue? Should I hold off on buying a strut bar until I've installed the CC? |

Should I hold off on buying a strut bar until I've installed the CC? | Haven't done it yet, but I was planning on installing the TRD strut bar right after I installed the cruise. It looks like a tight fit, but it should work. I'd recommend placing a piece of rubber between them, since it'll either be touching or very, very close after the install.
Not sure about other strut bars, but it looks like the TRD one should work. In any event, slightly relocating the cruise control box wouldn't be a huge deal if necessary.
And for your second question - if I was you I'd try to install both at the same time. If the strut bar goes in first, it might hamper your access to install the Cruise... Cruise first should be okay, but might need to be massaged a bit in its orientation when you put the bar in. |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control Thanks for the tips! I wanted to be sure because I would hate to spend the $$ for the bar and then find out the CC wouldn't fit (CC is definitely more important to me!) |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control i have 2 scions. 1 auto 1 5speed. led brake light bulbs even with resistors will screw the rostra cruise control up. it will act up or not work at all. i had to switch back to incandescent bulbs for brake lights. all the rest of the bulbs i run led are just fine. led brake bulbs screw up alot of factory systems as well. do a search for led bulbs with cruise to prove it. the rostra cruise works well as long as you run incandescent bulbs for brake lights. |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control the LED bulbs screw with wiring because they draw practically no amps. in some vehicles you need the resistor or you need to leave at least one bulb incandescent. and for turn signals, they make a zero draw flasher that can be used in some instances where a regular 2 or 3 prong flasher is used. they just have a ground wire that has to be hooked to the chassis. |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control Im installing a rostra cruise control 250-1755 on my xb and will be installing a tc wheel with the oem cruise stick. I understand that the wiring is different and it wont be a direct connection. I need information on whats inside the tc oem cruise stick so i can design an interface to make it work. On the scion wiring diagrams it appears to be a resistor on each switch, is that the case? If so can some one check one of them with a meter and get me the resistance values? I would like to have the interface designed by the time the wheel gets here. |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control It's easier to make Rostra stalk work in place of the original tC one than design and build an interface. The systems are just too different. Rostra stalk uses 4 wires, factory tC needs only 2. Voltages are not the same iirc: 12 on Rostra and 5 on tC. |

None of this really concerns me i know a lot of people would like to use the tc oem one in place of the aftermarket so i will have a solution for a converter. Just a lil background on myself i design electrical system for medium duty - heavy duty rescue, utility, emergency response vehicles & have designed / built power distribution systems, custom professional lighting control systems, owned an full service audio video lighting reinforcement business for 15 years. So changing a cruise switch is not a big deal to me. I just need the info requested in my post above so i can have it done when my tc leather wheel & stalk gets here sometime next week.
thanks |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control Very impressive resume there, mrxb06. I'll be waiting for the outcome of this conversion as i was toying with this idea myself few years ago but didn't feel i knew semi-conductor circuit design good enough to actually try it.
Please share the know-how once you get it working. |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control PCH do you have a tc stalk or know anyone with one.
Ive been in searching in alldata and found the resistor values but it appears that the on off switch isnt momentary its push on - off. Is that correct? |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control I don't have one. I think it's momentary because if i remember if you turn the car off with cruise ON and start it again, the cruise will reset to OFF and you'd have to push the switch again. |

| Re: Gen1 Cruise Control OK so i got the tc steering wheel alot sooner than i was planning but now im bummed because my local electronics store didn't have the ic chip i was planning on using so im gonna try another option i had in mind i'll post some pics when im done. Quote:

Looking at the plug for the wheel there are 5 empty cavities in harness that connects to the clock spring so it may just be a matter of re wiring the switch and putting some extra wires in. I wish i could pull it apart and look now but were going out for the day so if anyone can confirm that the empty cavities do run through the clock spring let me know or even if you have some really close pictures of all connectors on the clock spring |
