a lot of aftermarket headunits are coming equipped with USB ports. i was wondering if anyone here has tried using an external usb hard drive to store their music on. i'm tempted to go out and buy an external 1.8" 60gb hard drive to see if it works. i think the biggest hurdle is powering the hard drive. so has anyone tried it?

i don't think your problem would be powering the hard drive - that runs off the power of what ever it is plugged in to. You problem might controlling whats being played, becasue the hard drive probably won't act like a Ipod where you could pick a playlist/album to play but good luck and i hope it works for ya

i no that u can use a flash drive so a hardrive should work. u can only have one library or playlist, whatever u want to call it. control is no issue as u just plug it in, and let it play, u can skip songs but not browse really.

i actually had a h/u with one in my old car and used a flash once just to try it, and it worked fine
