Musical Cruise

What: We're going to start out with 12 miles of twists and turns on scenic Bouquet Canyon Road. Then we'll crest the mountains for a view of Palmdale and drop down to our destination, the Musical Highway. We'll have a picnic at Apollo Park, which is right down the street, where you can feed the ducks or walk around and look at the Apollo Space Capsules spread around the park.

The Musical Road in Lancaster, CA has returned. Once again music lovers can enjoy "The William Tell Overture" (AKA the theme from "The Lone Ranger") as they drive down a remote but scenic stretch of road on the outskirts of town. Originally constructed for a Honda car commercial, it was removed after neighbors complained about the strange noises and unruly behavior of people driving over the road. So after 18 days, the road was paved over.

The City of Lancaster decided to construct a new road on Avenue G between 30th and 40th West, on a less populated stretch of road that has no houses nearby. Honda didn't want its company name on the road, so the new road has no corporate sponsor. Instead, the Lancaster Parks, Recreation and Arts Department plans to pay for the road by sponsoring special events and programs having to do with the road.

It's about a one hour drive to our destination then it depends on how many times you want to circle around to go on the musical highway. There is food and gas within a few miles of the cruises end spot by highway 14 in Lancaster. We'll have a photo shoot at Apollo park and we'll be shooting video of the whole cruise as well.

def. back in So Cal to stay, was way too boring in S. Dakota. They dont have musical roads out there, just pot holes.

Would be great but it might require a tiime machine. The first Sunday of the month is a week earlier on the 1st. Just means you get to drive to Valencia twice.

that drive that y'all want to make is HELLA fun... but uhm, be careful because there are big dips with sharp sudden turns! i used to take my 280z out there and fly around the bends, and have had a lot of buddies new to the road slam into the sides of the mountains.

I drove the whole route already, it's all been repaved so you don't have to worry. If my box can make it 1" off the ground around the turns, tires screching, then it will be a blast.

Just a heads up, the annual SCV marathon starts that morning at 7am. For those coming in from out of the Santa Clarita area you'll want to leave a little extra time to get through traffic and around closed streets.

Looks like most of the closures will be over when we start but the traffic can back up for a little while on a few of the latter ones.
