These are not mainstream but you can also watch drama's and listen to music. It is all about what you like though. Some good recommendations here on clubxb. Also, probably the only mainstream anime that I watch is Bleach.

So Many to list, just always try to get the subbed versions because most of the voice actors are weak!

But going on classics...G-Force(battle of the Planets), Robotech original series can't remember the title, Akira, Ghost in the shell...just to name a few.

Of course Initial D all 4 stages, get the original! tokyo pop version is weak

I watched some Samurai Champloo when I was in New York in '06 and I really liked it. But I never got around to buying it and watching more, I probably should though.

I do however watch The Boondocks, which probably doesn't fit the true swords, and blood definition of anime you are looking for. But for comedy it fits the bill, some of the funnier stuff to come out lately in my opinion (related to Hip-Hop anyhow).

I won't bore you with what others have said like: Cowboy Bebop, Initial D, Samurai Champloo, Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X), Outlaw Star, Vampire Hunter D, GIST&SAC, AKIRA, Ninja Scrolls, Robotech.. etc...etc... Most of them are really good.

There are quite a few 80's OAV's and limited runs that have escaped me. They used to run quite a bit when Sci Fi Channel had Saturday morning/night Anime specials, and when TBS was doing their Thursday late-night anime schtuff.

Lemme talk to my buddy that is wayyy more into it than I am, he knows of many irc channels that host many sought after and impossible to find for purchase animes short of travelling to Japan...

*While based off popular video games, the respective plots aren't all that magnificent, but some of the animation itself is good. Though I liked Castlevania... Cuz I'm a Vampire Killer at heart.
