thanks =) | Your best and safest bet is to get a dedicated set of winter tires. There are plenty of good choices on the market today. They will provide you with the best traction during the winter months. Snow chains are designed for emergency use only when the DOT requires them to be installed to continue driving over certain mountain passes.
Also make sure you buy the correct chains. Scion specifies a "Class S" type chain for proper clearance between the tire and the suspension.
Also test fitting the chains prior to use is a plus so you will know how to install them properly when the need arises.
PM me if you need more info. |

Since I'm lowered and have Sportmax wheels (15x8 et +15), pulling over and putting on chains is not in the cards ... so here's what I do each trip.
1. Load two of my OEM tires with chains (s type) already installed.
2. Floor jack
3. Tire Iron
So much easier to pull over and just jack up the car and replace wheels. Even with OEM wheels, trying to put on chains on a lowered car just plains sucks ass. |

but how many of the studded tires would you need and what are the prices ranges for them? |

Both the car and tire manufacture recommend "FOUR" matching tires. This is so you have equal traction on all four corners.
Look at these links for some good info Winter Tire FAQ Winter Tire Safety
Here's a link to check out >>>> Winter Tire Search
Put in your year, make and model of vehicle and it will show you what's available for your application. |

And living in southern california, riding on snow tires in the winter is illogical. We dont get that much rain and we get no snow. |
