We just got a 2008 model today. We were told that this model had the adapter and would charge an IPOD while connected.

So we went and got a IPOD Nano 16GB model today as well. I think they call it 4th gen.

When we hooked it up the connection, it played fine. But on the Nano itself, it stated that this connection does not support charging.

This is the base radio model, not the upgraded model with the nice IPOD looking controls. Does it support charging while connecting? If so, does it not with the 4th GEN Nano? Our friend has a older (2nd gen I think) Nano and a 2008 XB as well. Her's charges fine.

When we get the chance Sunday we will try it out on her vehicle. But anyone know before then?

Well, I had the answer for you, but I can't post links until I have 30 posts and this is post #1... LOL

Anyway, google "4th gen nano not charging" and the first result on the page will be a thread on apple support forums explaining the problem that 4th gen nano, iPhone 3G, and classic nano will not charge via firewire. You can read 5 pages of people complaining about it.

I also had a link to an adapter that will fix your problem, but again, can't post the link. Google search "Scosche passPORT" and you'll be set.

it's true. it will not charge the latest gen of ipods. i have an ipod touch and it won't charge it either, but i plug in my ol ipod mini, and it charges perfectly and even displays scion logo on the ipod! ah well.
