For the money since you are still in school, I would get the 1gen. You should be able to get 1 that will fit your wallet. And start looking well before yo want 1. Most boxes out there are still in demand and depending on whee you live.

Oh get a gen 1 for sure. You will love it. They can be pretty inexpensive to purchase and you can do so much with them. Mine's been pretty much trouble-free ('cept one window sticks.) They are very roomy for all your college adventures with friends and I think they are very cool. (I wish they had these when I was in college!) Plus they don't make 'em anymore so that also makes 'em special. My stealership even harassed me to sell mine back! (Not going to happen.)

Gen 1 FTW! (but gen 2 is good.)

BTW look at some of the amazing gen1 xB's on this forum. Wow!

Welcome to the site! My vote is for a 1st Gen as well although I'm biased! Your budget should be the ultimate factor in deciding which model to get. With the 1st Gen, you could get one for a pretty decent price and still have room to modify to your taste. It also has great gas mileage and the Toyota engine should last you a long time so you have longevity going for you as well.

The 2nd Gen will cost you more, good but not great gas mileage and less money to mod. Whichever route you take, welcome and have fun!
