Does the 05 XB have a stock alarm?

I know it might be an obvious question but here is the reason I ask. I bought my scion and added the alarm that was installed at the dealer. It cost 350 and is a "KARR" alarm. Never heard of them and figured I would decline so I can get my own quality system. But since they knocked it down to half price (originally wanted 595) I decided to leave it on. Plus the finance manager said the vehicle doesnt come with an alarm (which I am 99% sure is bull$h*t). I have the keyless entry remote that comes from scion (with the panic button on the rear) as well as a "KARR" remote on my keys. Now I figured that there is a stock alarm and do not need another "stock" alarm on there. Please let me know so I can have them take that crapola off. Thanks

Re: Does the 05 XB have a stock alarm?

I used to have a car with a factory alarm and keyless entry. I also own another car with with just keyless entry. My 05 box has the factory keyless entry.
Keeping all that in mind, the keyless entry on a box is just keyless entry. It is not an alarm. The panic button may make the horn honk when you press it but there is no alarm system with the keyless entry on a box.

So everybody here just buys an alarm separate from the keyless entry?
Which alarm system do most go with?

Re: Does the 05 XB have a stock alarm?

You mean this..?

My dealer threw it in for free, since it was already installed..

works like any normal alarm, I know the factory alarms on my Supras only detect if the car is unlocked from the inside, and it'll disable the starter and radio, but there are no shock sensors, I believe, and can be deactivated with a shaved key, so an aftermarket alarm wouldn't be a bad thing anyway..

Scion Security too sensitive

The large oak tree in front of my house has been dropping acorns like there's no tomorrow. Bang an acron hits the xB's roof and off goes the alarm -- several times a night.

Is there a way to change the sensitivity of the system?

ledbootz there should be a small adjustment knob.... real small... somewhere on the main box which is prolly up and under your steering wheel/dashboard.... look there and see if you can lower it... otherwise park it in the garage!!!

Most people run with Viper and or if you want a knock off less expensive system then that i would go with Scytek or what ever.

I actually have a Viper alarm.. it is one of the more advanced ones they offer, has a long range antenna... if you can afford a Viper,,, go for it... otherwise I think Hornet and Valor are also decent brands...

Thanks for the response, DJrexx.

Since this was a recent purchase, I took it to the dealership and they took it back into the shop and very quickly turned it around - for free.

The mechanic said the security system factor setting is 5 out of 7. He turned it down to 2. Had me sign a work order to cover them in making the change.

So far, no late night alarms and the acorns continue dropping. The xBs roof is quite a resonator. Luckily I have not seen any dents on my baby's roof.

I will take a look under the steering to find the security system. I may try notching up the setting until it starts sounding again.

Re: Does the 05 XB have a stock alarm?

While you're at it, turn off the chirp or horn-honk as well. I have it like that on my 92 Supra and the sound of the doors locking, and the lights flashing is enough for me. I don't want folks to actually know I have an alarm, as they know most folks ignore them anyway...

that way when it both the factory and Viper alarm I have on there both go off (one honks, the other does the siren thing), they'll be caught off guard and panic...

atleast I hope so, if that doesn't work, it already has a super-hidden kill switch, as do my other Supras, all in different places..
