| Can you sleep in a first gen xB? I do alot of road trips and one of my concerns in getting an xB is whether or not I can sleep in it. The way I figure it each time I sleep in my car/truck instead of getting a motel I buy my next two tanks of gas.
I am wondering how long is the bed that is made when you fold down the back seats and how flat is it? would a single layer airbed be sufficient for sleeping in there? I am 6'1 and hopefully if both front seats are moved forward there will be enough room for me to sleep.
Any comments or tips on sleeping in the xB are much appreciated!
Thank you! |

| Re: Can you sleep in a first gen xB? While I'm not tall but I am big. I've had no issues sleeping in mine. It's a bit awkward and ya might wake up with a crick in something. The air mattress would probably be a no go. I've laid the back seats down and gone to sleep in the back a few times and been ok. |

| Re: Can you sleep in a first gen xB? If you want to take a sleeping bag with you, you can try this trick.
Move the front seats all the way forward. Remove the headrests on the front seats. Recline the front seats all the way back fold the rear seat forward and remove the headrests...you've got a place to sleep. Although I'm only 5' 10" I've slept this way on road trips to car shows. |

| Re: Can you sleep in a first gen xB? Well, I have and I am 6'1 as well. But I don't sleep like I am set in a coffin I mean I am more curled up but trust me its doable and I didn't even have an air-mattress, which I am not sure would fit in the first place. All you really need is a comforter or sleeping bag, and you'll be fine. |

| Re: Can you sleep in a first gen xB? Thanks for the fast responses guys! I want one of these so bad, I am moving to berkley california from vancouver canada and need to take my whole life with me so my current ride, a diesel smart, will unfortunately have to be given to my brother who will probably smash it. Oh well.
Between the roof basket (first mod I will do) and the whole back cargo area (with rear seats down) I will have to fit my entire life, this will be a great exercise in downsizing and I am looking forward too it, and hoping that I will be able to find some room to sleep in the car while I'm at it.
Something that alot of the ford escape users are doing is making a little custom cargo basket which fits between the backs of the front seats and the folded down back seats (without headrests) to bridge the gap and make a flat surface for cargo or sleeping. Would this be feasible or necessary in the xB?
Thank you all for your help I realyl appreciate it! |

| Re: Can you sleep in a first gen xB? It's doable but not something you would want to make a habit of. The Matrix has an almost completely flat load floor and a folding front seat. I found it much more comfortable for sleeping. I wish the xB had the forward folding front seat and a rear seat that laid more flat.
you'll really have to do some downsizing; the "Vehicle capacity weight," occupants + cargo is only 825lbs.

I'm ditching my PC to go with one of those tiny fanless dells. My laptop is an eee so already tiny! No furniture or bed just clothes, documents, and odds and ends. With a nice roof basket it will be feaisble i think |

| Re: Can you sleep in a first gen xB? Has anyone tried to sleep two in the 2nd Gen xB? I am very cutrious about this. I was considering a road trip and would love to save the money on lodging. I always hate to pay for only 6 hours of sleep. |

| A picture is worth a thousand words So here are 4
Like Taz said, put the front seat all the way forward, remove the headrest & recline.
It lines up perfect w the rear seat:
From the front edge of the front seat to the back seat you now have about 5’ plus a few inches in front:
(Ignore the table, its aftermarket from Orataro)
Now remove the rear headrests a flip the back forward and you have a straight run from the rear hatch forward:
Notice there is about a 6” height difference here:
so you’ll probably want to shove something in there to help even it out (plus the whole seat steadily angles downwards toward the front.)
Depending on how much luggage you're bringing it should be doable. |

| Thank you. The seat covers are from ScionShoppe, which recently went out of business.
I don’t believe they ever had a color close to yours, or made very many 2nd gen sets.
Member scvscions on here bought out their remaining stock. You can contact him directly & ask if he has anything.
And yes guys, the car is a bit of a mess
I just ran out & took a few quick shots. |

I'm 6'4 and also have an element.
The xB is NOT geared for sleeping but depending on how comfy you need to be... you can pull it off.
Yesterday i was on the way to the gym and my friend was taking forever so i reclined the seat and put my feet up by the cluster.... not the most COMFY but i dozed right off lol
I imagine had that been a FULL NIGHT, i'd be crooked and very irate today lol |
