2009 or 2010?

So I am in the market for a new xb. test drove a few times, did the research, I am pretty much decided i am getting mine...black sand pearl, blah blah blah.
Just as I am about to go talk to my local dealer to seal the deal, I read that the 2010 is on the way with a brand new audio system, but essentially the same car, for the same price as the 2009. The stories I read said they would be here at the end of the month, but now I am hearing that they are holding back for 3-5 months to sell the 09 stock. So...here's my dilemma: do I wait 3-5 months for an upgraded audio system and a newer MY or do i just go with the 09 now and satisfy my urge for a new ride? Sorry this was so long. Any advice?

i say wait a few more months. you not only get a new audio system but you will also be saving some money during the wait to spend on accessories/mods

You will want to contact your local Scion dealer about that because I am in the same position. I'm waiting for a 2010 myself. My local "Scion Champion" (the Scion sales person) said they will have mine in about three weeks...so about mid-June. I really hope they do!

I'm only hesitant because I wish I knew what awesome color the RS7.0 will be...

Wait for the 2010 it will have a little bit better resale valve compared to the 2009 because their going to try and sell you the 09 at the same price as the 2010.

Re: 2009 or 2010?

I was in the same boat a couple of weeks ago. I was ready to purchase an 09' and within a few days I saw the press release of the '10 models. I went to my dealer and he was able to see them in their ordering system so he was able to order one right then. He called me a couple days ago and said they filled the order and it would be at the port on the 10th of June and would have it shortly after. No mention of delays or anything. I would just check with your dealer they should be able to look in the system for what your looking for and see if their are any they can grab for you.

meant to add that I particularly wanted the stereo upgrade with the new iPod integration features so I planned to wait a couple of months myself but was surprised when he was ready to order one he saw inthere system. But since the features are just small ones it's up to you if you really want them. But for me, I am buying a brand new car...I am going to get exactly what I want and willing to wait for it.

Good luck and congrats on your decision to get a shaggin wagon LOL

New to the market and interested in xB.

Kiddax, where are you located?

I'd rather have a '10 than an '09, but I have a lease that's up 6/16 and I'd like to have something when my lease ends.

Thanks.

Re: 2009 or 2010?

I am in San Antonio.

I doubt you'd have one by the 16th if you ordered one, but I do know that they seem to be hitting the lots pretty quickly. My dealer had offered to get me one from some other dealers nearby (dont know where) that already had been test driven a few times. So it's possible to get a 2010 by then depending if you can find one in your area.

Re: 2009 or 2010?

Yeah, BRAND NEW is the way to go at this time. If you think about it, your car will maintain it's model year and, therefore, it's resale value for up to a year and a half. That's the main reason I'm waiting, but the new base head unit might be okay too...or I'll just go premium for $400 so I can hook up my amp and sub.

Either way, I need it pretty quick. My 1990 Honda Accord doesn't seem to be holding up too well these days, haha.

Re: 2009 or 2010?

Any idea if Scion will add some new colors?
I have a gold car, i dont want something in the gold/silver vein. too predictasble. White and black have drawbacks. That leaves a couple of drab colors Scion offers. Why not more like the original box? or what they have put out as special editions?
Thanks!

Re: 2009 or 2010?

honestly, i bought 2 new scions (08 xb RS 5.0 and a SW 08 xD) if i could do it over, i would have bought both used....the resale for the 2nd gen is way less that you will owe on it..ive found used 2008's for 10k-11k with like 20k miles...thats like new and its like 7k less than new..waiting for a new stereo is like waiting for new hubcaps. you will replace them anyways with something better. Buy now and buy used. just my 2 cents from experience

not enjoying my $400x2 a month payments

BTW the 08 and 09 have the ipod intergration already and the sub/amp hook up

I know it's personal opinion and all, but I just did a search on cars.com and there were 7 that listed their prices and 47 "not listed" that matched your criteria. None of them are in the midwest (where I am). If it were that easy to get one like that, hell yeah, I'd go used, but you have to remember also, that you're getting a really good deal in the first place. A great car with a 36k mi. (60k mi. power train) warranty, for a LOW price...not to mention how sweet they are.

I've noticed, while searching for a Scion myself, that dealers will raise the price through the roof! I see 2008 xB's that they want like $24k for... I'm like, are you crazy?! The 1st gen does seem to hold it's resale value, but you have to take what I just said into consideration and we can only wait a couple of years to see what the prices will do for the current gen.

On kbb.com I took a 2009 xB base, 5 speed, 15k mi., and the trade in was $13,300...private party price was value was at $15,415... Is it worth the money to know you have a full warranty and be the first one to put mileage on it? I think so.

Re: 2009 or 2010?

I dont see the XBs cheap enough used to warrant a closer look.
I did see a Kia Rondo for less than 10G with little mileage. Im stil thinking of that car but it is supposed to be bad on gas and not cool at all.
Anway, that's half the liseted price. I see nothing like that for a recent XB. They are darn close to to new from what i see. Im not going used to save 5g. More like 50%! im on L.I.

If you're going to go with a Kia, in my opinion, the Specta5 would be good. My girlfriend drives a 2007 Spectra and despite it's cheapness in materials, it's pretty damn peppy and have great warranties. The Spectra5 is close to the xB's cargo capacity (with seats down). They don't look too bad either.

Re: 2009 or 2010?

hingyfan, the used market is a strong "buyers market" right now. I'm seeing 2006's selling for more than some lower mileage 08's ( cars.com ). With a trade you could do pretty well.
Sales tax & excise tax should be a consideration as well if you buy new.
Nothing wrong with a Kia either except they are pretty nondescript

Re: 2009 or 2010?

Trade? Ha!
My Saturn LS has 285,000 miles on it. I finally started taking the train the to work a little too late.
I think the problem with the XB on LI is that there's not that many of them, so not many come up for sale used. If i ventured into the city ... but still it would not be enough, I think.
Quick look shows little below 15G.

Depends on how long you can wait.... I probably could have and should have waited, but I needed a car asap.

if you can get a good deal on an 09, grab it. If not, go with the '10 :-D

What year Saturn? Dealers around here are giving 3k minimum for a trade, for used.
On the other hand a 285k Saturn wouldn't bring much if anything at auction.
LI is not the best place to buy a car......

I don't know how much of a deal you will get on a new Scion. I called my local Scion dealer and talked to the sales guy I'm dealing with and after all my questions and my trips to the car lot, just to look at the cars, he would be honest with me, I know this...he drives an Envy Green RS3.0, haha!

I asked him if they would have any kind of year-end sales incentive, but he said no. I guess when they first came out, I guess they were offering a free bike or a free TV if you bought the last year's model!

I think that's hilarious, although I really want a bike too.

Long story short, the pure pricing "no-haggle" price usually means they won't be dropping the price much if at all. Scions, in general, are a GOOD deal though.

Keep an eye out on the newspaper ads...... I actually did get $1k off the price of the car because of a promo they were running on all xB's in stock.
