| gmail as my main + backup for my site mail.
I also use Eudora for my desktop.
Gmail is nice so I can check my mail from everywhere. Eudora is set up so when people email me there and I'm away it'll forward to my gmail account. |

| 1 Gmail account (main account, if you get that, you are my friend, and are special)
2 Hotmail accounts (old main, and spam accounts, if you have hotmail, you are pretty cool)
15+/- Yahoo accounts (all spam, if you have that one, I hate you, deal with it.)
1 AOL account (just so I can chat, so if you email me there, HAHAHA L-O-S-E-R) |

| I run my own web/email server, so I dont have an issue with my email address, unless someone gives my address to some website for spamming, which has happened once or twice. The only thing you can do is email everyone on your list and tell as of this day it will bounce.
I will tell you that if you have a web site do not use your email address on there as name@domain.com, because web crawlers, spiders and bots will get you email address and then its up for everyone, Use teh following on your web pages with your information. <script language="javascript">
<!--
var contact = " Email Me"
var email = "YOURNAME"
var emailHost = "YOURDOMAIN.net"
document.write("<a href=" + "mail" + "to:" + email + "@" + emailHost+ ">" + contact + "</a>")
//-->
</script>
Also if you have a domain registered do not have your email address on that, that information is widely available for free, all you have to do is a whois and you get all the information for who registered the domain. |

| Hotmail I use hotmail since it has started with Window Live. Its like using Outlook without all of the internet crap. Yahoo started on that as well, so I guess its just as good. Not really too familiar with other email providers..but like someone else said if you get like earthlink or aol or something like you lose it if you dont keep it. |

| I use Gmail for my personal email and contact info., SBCGlobal.net for things like eBay, and I run a domain with one hell of a Barracuda/Postfix setup at work, so I use that for any work or business related information.
Gmail is, by far, the best out there for free. You can't beat the storage, the Scumware filtering is outstanding, and it always seems to be up! No slowness or downtime to fret over. |

...or spend the bucks on a Barracuda and be done with it all! They are expensive, but they certainly do their job well! |

| 2-3 Gmails
10-15 Yahoos
5 or so Netscapes
5 or so Hotmails
1 UNK email
I like to keep a low profile if ya know what I mean. No one knows when Im really around or not ;-) Theres only 3-4 I use frequently. The others are just "access" emails.

| How do you people keep up with so many damn email accounts. I would get frustrated having to log in to them all the time. I mean if I want a low profile, use the offline option. |

| Wow!
I just had a good example of why a 'permanent' e-mail address can be 'a good thing.'
Someone whom I have been out of touch with since probably 1998 just ran into a really old e-mail they had printed out and just on a lark sent me an e-mail at that address "just in case it still worked."
We are now back in contact.
(That's one of two permanent 'pay' e-mail forwarding addresses I've had since 1996...)
Oh, as to how one keeps track of multiple addresses, one lets the machines do most of the work. For me, most of my addresses end up at only four REAL accounts - they are consolidated by the mail servers. They still show which e-mail address they were sent to, so I can have my mail client sort them into different buckets or flag some for special attention, but my mail client only looks at 4 actual mail accounts.
Considering I have the potential for tens of thousands e-mail accounts just from my domain, I settled on this way of doing things.
If I need to pay special attention to mail directed toward any special e-mail address I have the client flag it, just like I do with e-mail from specific sources: in the list of received non-spam mail, anything from ClubxB has a blue background, from ScionLife a red, Apple Developer an orange, Earthlink Corporate is gray, and stuff from my hosting company is either red text or green text depending on urgency. Colorful but useful.
Tomas

| I bet your email pile looks like a bunch of skittles.
Its also not hard to keep track of regular. Same password for most, just small variations in name, unless Im trying to throw someone off. Then agian, I wont use that email at all either besides as a "login"

| Re: Who do you use for email ? I use Live Mail, Mica Mail, and many others related to each domain I own.
I use colors to flag each mail, like Tomas does, and he is soo right about how well it works.
Once you get over a certain number of email accounts, these "colors" seems to be the best way to cut them down to size. Some of emails even load right into their specific folder, which will then be highlighted to show a new message from that contact.
Skeeter's & Tomas' tips are first class! |
