Computer bug

Has anyone seen or hear of something called WinFix? This keeps popping
up on computer and wants us to download it. Some of the windows that
do pop up do not want to close out. I now have all sorts of crap popping
including this winfix crap. My Norton Security software says this is a virus
but for some reason can't clear it all off our computer. Any thoughts or
suggestions. Do I need to call Geeks Are Us to have them clear this stuff
of the hard drive memory?

Sounds like you could use some spyware detection programs. Try SpyBot search and destroy, it's free or use the new one from Microsoft, it's free as well.

Spyware can be persistent. Sometimes its better to reformat and reinstall windows as a timesaver. Just backup your valuable files and then try to remove the spyware. If you cant get rid of it after a thorough cleaning (in safe mode too) save time and trouble and reformat.
here are some good sites.

These guys are getting so good at hiding the malware that it can be almost if not impossible to get out. As Cravin says, may be time to reinstall the whole damn thing or....get a MAC

I run both and have no worries with my MAC.

Well I've had the flu for three days now and I'm not thinking all too clearly right now but when these winfix2006 pop up they tagged as being something microsoft. Telling me the system has file problems, might crash, lose all data yadayadayada. Is this a legit program from microsoft or something appears to be from them but is not? I'm so tired right now I can barely spell
Also will running the down load from mcafee that ashley06xb suggested coincide with norton antivirus/security and spysweeper from webroot that I'm runnig now or will they fight each other?

My head hurts -- I'm going back to bed

Use only one antivirus program because they dont usually play well together.
You can run several spyware removers infact if one antispyware prograam misses something chances are the other two will get it. I usually run Adaware, spybot search and destroy, and Microsoft antispyware beta.
Winfix 2006 is NOT a microsoft product its sole purpose is to pester you to buy the BS program and other crapola from the shady bastards who wrote the junk.

Safe mode loads windows in its most basic form. No programs or device drivers start up so its easier to delete bad bugs and spycrap in that mode. To start Windows in safe mode press F8 when the comp is booting up. You will go to a menu with a few choices, choose "start windows in safe mode" if you want to get online while in safe mode choose "safe mode with networking" Your CD drive wont work in safe mode so if you need anything from a cd copy it to your hard drive before you boot into safe mode.
