| XB with spare wheel on the hatch? I'm looking for pics for an xB that's got the spare tire on the hatch door like some other larger mid sized SUV's. i THINK it was a white one... not sure.
i'd like to see how it was mounted on there without straining the metal too much and where he put his rear license plate after that... and wether or not he had any police issues with not having licence plate lights. |

| Re: XB with spare wheel on the hatch? It is usually a requirement for the rear plate to have lights so factor that into your design. |

| Re: XB with spare wheel on the hatch? i was thinking of making a swing arm setup for it so it wouldn't be that much of a strain on the hatch it's self. it would also act as a rear frame support on twisting motions. |

| Re: XB with spare wheel on the hatch? Bah! that's for under the rig. i'm looking about a swing arm setup on the hatch area.
i remember seeing a white xB with a full time spare on the back, didn't have a swing arm it was just bolted to the hatch but you get the idea.
i have a good idea how i'd make the swing arm, i just would like to see that xB before i decide to do it to mine. |

| Re: XB with spare wheel on the hatch? I also remember seeing the white, uhh maybe two-toned xB with the spare on the rear. Also if I remember correctly it was rocking 20" or 22" wheels. The pics that no one can now find were of the xB driving on the beach. Regardless, I do not recall seeing any pics that would provide any further information on how they executed their 5th wheel setup.
I think Yakima + basket + full size spare would look great. |

as for the spare up on the rack, not my idea of a perfect setup. something about having roughly 40lbs of top weight to me is just a bit off. at the same time, i like how it looks on the back rather than on the top. |

| Re: XB with spare wheel on the hatch? hay all... ive actually made a hitch and then mde a receiver that holds the spare tire... i was thinking of attaching the spread to the hatch but it would make the door really heavy. ill post some pix when i get home, the only thing i need to work out is making it easier to open the rear hatch quicker :P like have it fold down or something. |

doing this takes the load off the door and puts it on the uni-frame. |

| Re: XB with spare wheel on the hatch? May want to check out Sidekick and Samurai setup. I think they use swingout fixture.
I was thinking about it few years back and thought that most of the load should be placed on the bumper support. Also the rear tow hook connection could be utilized to cary some of the weight.
IMO though the tire would just look too big for the rear hatch, but may be you can have it built nicely, so good luck! |
