Now, I am going to do this, regardless to what people think here.... And I know there is a handful of old VW and VW fans here.

So, to them, they might really enjoy this...

And as far as I know, I'll be the first to do it to a xB.

This is a really bad photoshop, but it'll deliver the point I am trying to illustrate:



That is right..... Hood Ride, the xB!

Now, its going to be done with all spare parts. So if you've seen my post in WTB Classifieds, this is why I am looking for a OEM METAL hood. And if you've seen my quest for the right fender mounted side view mirror, this is why... And also going to try to find some cheap ass "billet" grills to rust. So basically, metal grills, made to look like billet, but aren't really billet. lol.

I expect a lot of negative feedback from this. Trust me, I've weighed it out. and decided for my exterior, to set it apart from everyone's Scion by going a old school route.

Also, feel free to offer up suggestions if you're a hood ride fan. Roof Rack is on my list of things to get.

And if you hate it, go ahead and voice your opinion. It'll be fun. Hate and Love is WANTED in this tread.... (will not hear that every day)

MEH! I can't ride stock height. Tried it for a week, and almost lost my mind.

Maybe if I ever get around to bagging it, i'll send them to ya. lol

I think it would be tight in some ways but not others...but would like to see it...And I think you top it off with a keg as a gas can...lol.

keg gas tank is more rat rod or mini trucker than it is hood ride.

But if I was going for rat rod, mooneyes tank would be mounted. LOL

Do it! You can always go back if you dont quite like the way it turns out. Round fogs in the bottom- may be. May be even better with halo headlights or Zenki ones. Anyway, you've got style to your xB- the original of the pic that you photoshopped on is one of my fav xB pics of all time.
I wonder if it would look cool to have the rust clear coated. You are not gonna have the straight "hood ride" xB anyway, so if you are going after the "style", you can still keep it clean. Just a thought.

if you clear rust it will only last so ok g before the rust eats threw the clear.

Thanks for the compliment on the pic though

Oh and I don't get into the aftermarket headlights for our cars. To me they are just over done and tacky looking with all the LEDs.

I knew that is what you were thinking of. Try to look up the magazine S3 this months issue has a great VW Hood ride on the cover. May give you some ideas.

Personally the fogs do not flow right in my opinion.

Also for the grille goto Home Depot and get the material there that looks just like the RS2 grille.

Love the Golf. Wouldn't do it to my car, but digging the look. This style may be great on the box especially with dark paint.

This is what actual made me want to do it. Seeing a new car pulling it off that well. But of course, VW's are known for being Hood Ride. And the Hoodride VW is the VIP Look of Scion. Where it has it die hard followers, and those that love the look... And then those who can't stand it, or on the fence about it.

I think it's just something you have to understand the history behind hood ride. Hood ride is kinda like Rat Rod. Except instead of doing chop tops and swaps from junkyards, it's just layin' it low, and letting it continue to rust.

And being Hoodride Style (as I am doing) it's more of a tribute to the real hood rides, and a way to stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Also, I am frankly shocked to see this much love for the idea. Glad to see the open minded people out there, who like seeing new and different ideas.

I am a rat rod fan, and am old school at heart. May only be 23, but my mind set is in the 50's. lol

Well as soon as someone is willing to give one up for a good price, I am going to hit it with some aircraft paint stripper, spray the hose on it, maybe pee on it, then bolt er' on up.

i finally understand the Hood Ride thing. Well I knew of that whole scene but never knew it had a name.

So HELLZ YEA! Do it man! I like it! I think it would be bad ass!

You know what I think of it. Make sure you bleach the hood before you install it, should help the rust start a bit better.
