I never knew it had its own name though, but the hoodrides were most of my inspiration for the paint that is on gothbox now, its a mix of hood ride and rat rod, I have always wanted a bug, and still do. I could not pull off the full hoodride look b/c of the needed dents, and missing/falling off parts.
the bug from Monster Garage was a BIG part of my paint, and made me decide to paint the whole thing, and not just panels and such. That and we have plastic bumpers, so I did not have much of a choice.
for those who need a more explaining of the term hoodride, here you go.
"A hoodride is an old vintage car that's been lowered and has original faded or worn paint. In the best case, the car will also have rust and patina. Mismatched panels, dents and missing parts enhance the look because they add more character and originality. Driving a hoodride is about making use of a car everyone else would avoid because it's "ugly" or "beyond repair" and being able to love it for what it is. It's enjoying your car because you built it the way you want, and not how everyone else thinks it should look.
A hoodride is most often an older model air-cooled Volkswagen, but it doesn't really have to be a VW to qualify for hoodride status--It can be any rusty old car. |

| Re: Would like your opinion Damn good explanation bro.
Of course, that was a true Hoodride.
When you do just the hood, it becomes like VIP on scions. Style. So I am paying tribute to what I would like to have, but just can't right now. And the style is soooo hot! I think my big attraction to it is, you're not supposed to like it, but something about it, draws you to it. And also the fact that most people don't understand it, or hate. |

| Re: Would like your opinion alright, I've read the replies of those that dig it, read those who are I. The fence about it. But where are the haters? Let's here some comments from those who attend the playa haters ball.
I'm not going to flame on anyone for not liking it, I just want you to be vocal and express your thoughts on it. Please don't be shy, I'm not gonna bite....hard.
But seriously, the one post that encourages negative feedback, and there is none. What the hell? Don't make me post this on scion life and let them hate. LOL
Ah who am I kidding. SL sucks. LOL
But I'm just yammering on about nothing now... Cant understand why your still reading this. Maybe your as bored as I am...or burnt out on watching guy on girl on girl on girl on sheep on girl porn... Don't know how that can get burnt out. I mean that's some of the most Epic porn ever.
Ah crap my shoe is untied. Guess I'll stop typing and go tie it. Did u really read all of this? Man you need a hobby. Oh snap here comes your boss, minimize the screen quick. Minimize tetris too. That'll get you canned fast!
So where's the haters? Bring on some hate! Or more love. Either is fine. And I think I am going to start the rusting progress this week and order up a mirror. It's either that or buy a new couch. |

| Re: Would like your opinion Build your car and negative opinions will come. I wouldn't call them haters, just people why cant appreciate something different about someone elses style. Hood ride is pretty much opposite to VIP , so expect some strong feelings about it, just give it time.
So what is the "hood ride" when applied to xB? You dont have a vintage car to start with, even though the box can look great given some retro work. Is it OK for a hood ride to have a sano interior or is it a no-no? Billet wheels are not normally allowed at the Rat Rod shows, what about alloys on the Hood ones? How the rust will go with the rest of the car being waxed? Plans for a rusty roof rack? |

| Re: Would like your opinion Hood ride works for newer cars as well. Just hit up thesamba.com and do a search in the gallery. Same with vwvortex. It's a very free atmosphere style imo. |

I think a flat (like OD or EZ Baked) rusty grille would look good on the box. |

As long as skittles brings my money tonight I am going to go get the fogs and order a mirror, and maybe the swamp cooler. Probably just start rusting the hood I have since I no luck finding a oem for cheap. may even dog floating hood mod if I can find the hinges. |

| Re: Would like your opinion I have been thinking about changing up gothox, to kinda combine, Hoodride, rat rod, hot rod, etc.
like for real rust out the hood, hatch, roof, and maybe one door.
and patina style the other doors, and fenders, and bumpers.
I guess I need to find a roof rack too though. |
