Re: Whats your MPG?

My second fill up got me a little over 30 mpg.

I concentrated more on how I drove my box last week. As a result, yesterday's fill up cost me about $13.70, calculated at 33 mpg, driving around 60% city, 40% freeway. On the roads I tried to keep the tach under 2000 rpm, and freeway driving closer to 2000-2500 rpm when not accelerating.

Re: Whats your MPG?

I seen a few people ask what mods help mpg but havent seen any replies yet. I was wondering if the mods like the "tornado" or the "chip" or the little fan that goes in your intake on ebay will help as they claim to do? has anyone tried any of these and what was the outcome. Thanks for any info.

30-37 depending on the gas used or time of year.

20-25. With a TON of weight in the back with an auto. Sometimes 28.. but that is rare. I only drive it to shows and to town every couple weeks though.

its hype. junk, garbage waste of effin money. toyota spent lots of time and dollars engineering these things to be as efficient as possible.

The bigger Motor is why it gets less gas mileage.... a stock gen2 would blow a stock gen1 off the road..... TRD superchared gen2's give TRD supercharged tc's a feirce run on road and their motor is the same... neither car get close to the MPG that a Gen1 gets. My Tc Gets around 26 MPG on Reg 87

My Gen 1 gets around 37 MPH running 18's w/ aem intake but its only because i fill up with 89 grade instead of Reg 87

Have you ever tried reg87 in the box? i didnt think that octane had any effect on gas mileage...

yea i have but that was over two years ago.... i know that the higher the octane the slower it burns learned that at Apex (lol) only went for 8 weeks... but most cars cant take anything higher than 89

Re: Whats your MPG?

^^ yes higher octance = slower burn and higher ignition temp required to burn to protect against pre-ignition and detonation... but it does not help fuel economy one bit, the higher the octane, the less fuel economy you get because of the ethanol content being higher.

winter studded tires Hankook iPike W409's 185/65/15 - between 29 and 31mpg.

all season BFG Tracion T/A T-rated 185/65/15 - between 30 and 35mpg.

future size 225/50/16, mileage should be roughly the same with wheel+tire cobo being slightly lighter due to lighter rims. road noise is the only increase.

Re: Whats your MPG?

OK, in an earlier post I stated that I got 29.128 MPG. That was my second tank. Since the first was from the dealer I did not try to calculate any mileage. On the second tank I took it really easy. I did not do any jack rabbit starts and tried to let it shift under 3000 RPM. On the third tank I just drove it. I didn't even look at the tachometer and I got better mileage at 29.588. Go Figger?!?

Re: Whats your MPG?

if you are letting your xB sit and warm up before you go anyway... you DO get to optimum performance and efficiency but because it's just sitting there burning gas off, you are actually going to end up with less mileage calculated from the miles you drive on one tank.

if you start up and take off but keep it easy on the gas until the temp is up, you will get more miles out of a tank because you are putting that gas to use rather then just burning up and doing nothing.

if you want to warm up your xB, why not by a small block warmer and do it that way like the big diesel guys. no wasted gas, your at near optimum temps... it's perfect.

Re: Whats your MPG?

i get 24 mpg with 19 volk wheels with 225/40/19....i know that these tires are a little too tall or the car but i like the little extra rubber. the stock OD for the 2nd Gen is 24.9" and i am running 26.1" with 225/40/19.....i think that if i take the roof rack off the car I register 24.8 or close to 25 mpg....also, i have almost 200lbs worth of second skin audio (dynamat) material in my car as well...so can't complain about gas mileage.....But definitely quieter than before. My stereo sounds that much better also!~

Another thing i noticed got me a little better gas mileage was taking out the dealer optioned TRD intake.

Goyogi - What kind of mods do you have for better gas mileage? I'd like to do the same kinds of things.

Nice. I just got a K&N cold air intake, which I haven't installed yet. I think I'll probably get a short ram intake instead. Any downside to an SRI?

Is that something Scion-specific or a generic thing? I know my dad had one on his truck for the cold New England winter nights growing up, but it sounds like it wouldn't be a bad idea for any car.
