Are you saying that deactivating overdrive manually hurts the transmission?

Re: What does the over drive do? HELP?

I rarely used it in mine and now don't even have it! I disconnected the button when I did my shifter mod. I thought about relocating it somewhere, but it does not really matter to me right now.

If you just keep playing with it all the time, of course- you're forcing it to shift more than normal. It probably has a miniscule effect on the life of the transmission, but any extra shifting is still extra wear.

Hi Victor! I'm intrigued now, so please share pictures of the OD on your steering wheel. Not that I want to do that, but was it complicated?
Thanks!

I don't know about earlier models but 06.5 xBs with steering wheel audio controls have airbag spiral cable that had few unused circuits in it (used for cruise control signals on tC). So i wired a momentary button to the steering wheel's metal frame (ground) and other connector to the unused pin on the spiral cable. Then from under the steering wheel i ran the wire to the shifter and tapped into existing OD signal wire.

You can see the wire i added plugged into the spiral cable's connector (held to the rest of the wires with blue ziptie):

Now that is a great idea! I want to get the stock tC leather wheel, so this may be something that gets done if that ever happens.

Re: What does the over drive do? HELP?

Sometimes I wonder when questions like this are asked if people know what a owners manual is, and how to read one....

Then I remember that most of america is to lazy to read or research their questions and would rather just have the answers given to them.

Overdrive is like free naws for your transmission yo!

Oh and the rant statement was just random, so nobody get a sore butt from it mmmmmkay?

Re: What does the over drive do? HELP?

honestly... if you don't know what overdrive is on your car, you shouldn't be driving it... overdrrive has been around for nearly 30 years now... it's a standered and basic knowledge...

/rant

overdrive activates the *in fender* rockets you have. when activated, you go to mock 3 speed for a few short seconds as you run away from the red shells thrown at you be mario in the gocart behind you.

/smarta$$

overdrive is a system used to improve mileage over a long distance that requires a continuous speed limit. regardless though, if you are in city or on thee highway, having overdrive only improves your mileage by going to the lowest gear possible without chuging the engine while keeping the RPM's low for the best possible mileage. you've only to push the gas pedal down more and the ECU will automatically downshift to the best suitable gear for acceleration. also, having overdrive on at all times is NOT harmful to the vehicle, like i said it is an automatic system that will take care of it's self without worry. the only time you shouldn't use overdrive is in the snow and ice, you will loose control due to too much horse power generation, you want torque to get through snow and ice so downshift in your 1st and 2nd gears. if on the highway, then use your drive setting.

/truth

i'm done too...
and like he said above me, don't feel butt hurt about my rant... because it's pretty true...
