| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? What are the effects or problems oh having the code P0012. Less mpg? Ruff idle? Will it cause problems if you don't repair. I know it won't pass emissions... Unless you erase code before you go. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? You loose VVT function: valve timing is not adjusted by the ECM, so it'll be making less power at higher RPM. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? ok so i have been having the same problem like everyone else with the VSC, Trac off, and engine light. Those three lights have gone on and off for about a few months now.
I finally went to Autozone to get the code and this was it P0012.
There are a list of problems it might be, but i was reading some of the posts on here and there are many different reasons why these lights are on.
My box runs great, ever since that light came on i have not seen any difference in the driving...does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do? |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? Hmm i have a little different problem, but almost the same... I have the Traction control, VSC, and ABS lights on... no actual change in driveability or anything just the annoying lights and the looming emissions test... the dealer said one sensor controls all three of them... should i pay for the sensor to be replaced or what?? any ideas before i start trying to shell out cash for possible fixes... oh and btw I allready reset my battery and they came back on like 5 mins after running it.... |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? There are, like 7 engine related sensors that i can think of. Which one? Do you know the code that causes the lights to come on? With the emissions test coming up you don't have a choise but to have it fixed. Driving with the warning lights on is never a good thing anyway. |

p0446 evaporative emission control system vent control circuit malfunction | that's your Evap switch that's clipped on the side of your air box. you might have some dirt or debris in the power cable to it or it's stuck or possibly dead.
doesn't do anything dangerous to the car if dealt with in a timely manner... BUT, the system is specifically meant to purge fuel vapors from your fuel tank. this is system is what replaced the return based fuel system to a return'less fuel system. without the purge, fuel vapors will accumulate and become dangerous. any time you refuel the car, you risk chance of spark with static and metal to metal contact. if there is accumulated fuel vapors and just so happen to catch a spark... well, you can get the point i'm getting to.
also, do know that it's also used for mileage reasons. the Evap system takes advantage of the vuel vapors by purging them into the intake AFTER the MAF sensor, allowing the ECU to notice a larger amount of power being generated than it's calculating, so it cuts fuel useage down slightly while the purge is active. once it sees normal power production again, it goes back to it's original configuration.
also, the Evap purge activates VERY often. when i had mine disconnected, it activated almost once every 10 minutes so it's probably safe to say that it probably greatly effects mileage by as much as a few MPGs depending on the environment and driving habbits.
i would see if your purge unit needs to be cleaned or replaced or what have you. like i stated before, it's located on the side of the stock air intake filter box. it's small with a tube comming from the back of the firewall up to it and another tube going directly to the throttle body. it also has a small 2 wire harness clipped to it. |

"Returnless" means there is no fuel return line to the gas tank from the fuel rail. The only fuel line to the engine is supply from the pump unit. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? yes, but to my understanding, the returning based systems allowed the cirulation of warmer fuel, allowing accumulating vapors to eventualy be burned over time. without some sort of purge for the fuel vapors, the fuel tank becomes an extreme hazzard, like allowing half empty rattle paint cans sitting in the hot sun for hours. |
