| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? I had a similar problem when installing my intake. I just reset the ECU and I was good to go, no problems since. Im pretty sure your supposed to unplug your battery before doing a CAI install. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? My 3 stooges have been on for a while....even after reseting they come back on within a day...I am due for emissions testing...whoopie..... I did some research and found that if you rest the obd by removing the battery or pulling the fuse it will be an immediate fail as the computer will read not ready on some sensors as they haven't gotten the results back they require......my lights all came on back when I did the perrin CAI and exhaust on the car like in 05 ish.....looking like new o2 sensors are in call as the last time I was at the shop and had a test done it threw the code for a o2 sensor but we didnt knowwhich one at the time.....didnt bother looking it up as was no need to fix right away LOL......so just a lil heads up that reseting the computer doesnt always rest the system....I'll keep everything posted as to what was the exact issue.... |

dummy lights don't go out on their own. if they come on, there's a problem... the only reason why they are called "dummy lights" is because they don't give detail, they just say "hey, there's something wrong, check it". it's not a full on gauge telling you specific voltages, pulse ratings, resistances, timed activations and so on. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? i'll say it again...
pick up a OBDII reader.
here is a good one that i have that does the job: Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices
really simple. plug it into your terminal port just under the dash on the left side.
put your key in, turn to "on" position and have the reader plugged in and it'll ready what you have for codes. right them down and look them up in the handy booklet that comes with the OBDII reader.
what ever code you get will have a direct relation to a specific sensor. get the general idea of what sensor it's working with *IE, exhaust, intake, valve timing, CAT, fuel line, speed, brake malfunction and so *. what ever it relates to, check the sensor first before you freak out.
it's that easy. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? ^^^ I got the same code reader from them when it was on sale for $20. Always works great and comes with codes definition database on CD. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? I took your advise and picked one up.
It gave me a too lean code.
I put some am/pm gas in her the other day and she is down to about a quarter of a tank.
could it be that with the cleaning of the filter and the cheap gas was the cause for my stooges?
Thanks, |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? That code may be caused by vac leak, bad first O2 sensor or may be bad/dirty MAF sensor. Some gas additives may affect the O2 sensor.
Try clearing the memory by disconnecting the battery or use the code reader and see if it comes back. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? another possibility is that your EVAP solenoid switch was activated to purge your fuel vapors and you may not have had any vapors to purge, giving a too lean of a burn. it's possible to happen.
other than that, i'd say the same as what PCH has going. |

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? Thanks,
i do appriciate the help.
I cleared the code and will watch to see if it comes back.
I have just under 40k on the odometer.
It may be that she needs to reset her self now that the airfilter is clean and she can breath better. I might have gone over the 25k cleaning by a few miles and with all of the bad snow here they have been putting down the sand pretty heavy.
Thanks again,
One other question,
where can i get a repair manual?
I check the store and they dont have any and the other store said that there is a 3 to 5 year wait after they come out before they make one.
Thanks,

| Re: VSC, Check Engine, Trac Off ????????? I got the code reader and my code was too lean. I cleared the code and it has not come back on. I am hoping that it was just bad gas or the vapor purge with no vapors.
Thanks for all of the help. |

Since its triggering safety mode, I'd say its more of a serious problem.
My turbo kit is throwing 4 codes. MAF sensor says too much air, fuel senor says too much fuel, both exhaust sensors say too much airflow. But my car isn't in safety mode, I can rev all the way up to redline if I want. |

if you're boost is too high and the safety has kicked in, then you MAY have a serious problem known as engine knock which suggests you would be running stock rods which is BAD. anything over 7-8psi on the stock rods and you'll start going in to a very risky zone. some people are lucky and get away with 10-12psi, others pop their rods before they hit 9psi.
if you're running stock injectors and are running higher boost like 8-10psi, you may be running in to a brick wall with your injectors' duty cycles and could be getting too close to detonation which is another possibility.
are you running a piggy back ECU? has it been tuned properly?
there's loads that can cause that problem from turbo'd setups. |
