Re: Twin turbo supra motor swap?

So realistically..would a 4-age fit in an xb?
Sure it's not thee most powerful engine in the world..but it'd be reasonable right?

Re: Twin turbo supra motor swap?

if i'm making a 2grfe V6 3.5L fit, a 4age will fit no problem with less modification.

i just don't find the 4age to be that great. it's a belt driven interfierence engine... belt snaps and you're out of an engine... pistons start slapping valves and valve stems start putting holes through the head covers and your valve springs, retainers get ground up by the came shafts and then your cam shafts shatter like glass...

i'm going with the 2grfe because:

1. it's toyota's most efficient V6 ever.
2. for a V6 it only weighs 356lbs which is very light.
3. it's a V6 to which in our chassis with 4WD will still get nearly 30mpg.
4. it requires very little modification to make it punch out alot of power.
5. it's a non-interfierence CHAIN driven motor so no issues if the chain SOME HOW manages to break.
6. the long block can be switched out with a 1gr's long block making it a 1.5grfe 4.0L V6 that revs to 8,000rpm and with turbo would still get mid 20's for mpg.

the 4age is a choice for swaps. i just don't see much out of it. the 1ZZFE would be the best option for a 4cyl engine. the 3SGTE is just too damn heavy for what it is *422lbs engine alone* and it likes to eat oil ALL the time AND you have to use the shimless valve retaining setup that the ZZ engines use on the 3SGTE's head otherwise you'll throw shims at anything over 7,500rpm on it...

so, in my opinion, the best engine choices are:

1. 2GRFE V6 3.5L *chain driven non-interfierence engine with Dual VVT-i, use for ANY application.*
2. 2ZZGE 4cyl 1.8L 180hp *chain driven interfierence engine with VVTL-i (not recommended for turboing or DD, high rpm based straight line top end)*
3. 1ZZFE 4cyl 1.8L 140hp *chain driven interfierence engine with VVT-i (great for DD and off line acceleration and easily moddified for high power)*
5. 2AZFE 4cyl 2.4L 180-ish hp *chain driven interfierence engine, not the best for top end what so ever, great mid power but poops out as you climb rpm regardless of head work. it's also a fat engine*.
6. 4AGE 4cyl 1.6L 130-ish hp *belt driven interfierence engine, not recommended for turboing. equiped with Toyota T-VIS *throttle variable intake system*, good for drifting, high rpm top end engine*.
7. 4EFTE 4cyl 1.3L turbo 135hp *belt driven non-interfierence engine, the 3SGTE little brother, unknown oil hunger characteristics...*

EDIT:
like how i skiped 4 on that last list?

Re: Twin turbo supra motor swap?

^^i'm workin on it. i have the motor already in storage at my mother's. i haven't had a chance to drive up there and get pictures yet, it's a 4 hour drive from here .

but since i got the main piece i'm probably going to end up hitting school for a bit before i keep going. that way the rest of tthe project is funded completely without any money issues *will be CNC programing and Machining with drafting and design on the side and MAYBE some welding*.

Re: Twin turbo supra motor swap?

you could have some fun but some major torque steer unless you convert it to rwd. good luck, sounds sick.

Ok..Being serious..has anythought of a FWD SR20DE Swap? It makes sense to me...

If I had a spare xB I would try it.

Re: Twin turbo supra motor swap?

i wouldn't...

you'd have to chop the crap out of the fire wall to fit it for a rwd setup.

the reason why the 2GRFE would be the best bet is because you can atleast have 4WD and have it a transverse setup with minimal modification to the fire wall *just a bit of massaging* and then some cutting on the sub frame rails... make a new tube frame and so on. the 2GRFE engine also only weighs 350lbs *381lbs with full fluids* so it's extremely light for it's size.

you COULD do a rwd setup with the 2GRFE and still wind up doing less modification to the firewall and end up with a much more power capable power house than any 4 cylinder and you'd have monsterous torque to back it up for drifting.

Re: Twin turbo supra motor swap?

OH! gotchya, well, doable... you'd have to do the same work to the sub frame rails as the 2GRFE would require due to the added length of the SR's block size. the front end would be retardidly over weight though too cause of that iron monster block. at that point you might as well use a 2AZFE, add a bit of liter size and reduce a butt load of weight.
