Sea Foam To be or Not to be?....

Thought I would start a thread in regards to this product. Assumptions and opinions may not be necessarily be valid answers. If you personally have used this product, we would benefit from the effects and results you received from this treatment and will be much appreciated.

Does this treatment work or not? is the question.

Re: Sea Foam To be or Not to be?....

I've used this stuff. Per the directions on the bottle, 1/3 in the tank, 1/3 in the crankcase and 1/3 in the intake via vacuum line. To be honest, I really didn't notice any change which may be good since I only have 45K miles on my car. I use it at every oil change as a preventative measure. May be snake oil, but I'm an optimist.

Now if you have a very high mileage car, that may give different results. I helped a buddy use this on a xB with just under 100K miles and his did smoke a lot longer than mine did. We weren't sure about noticeable improvements, but his idle did smooth out from what is usually ran at.

We ran the Sea Foam into the intake via the hose connected to the PCV valve. Tip - use a water bottle (12oz) cut in half to suck this stuff into the hose. Hold the hose just above the Sea Foam and it will suck into the hose, do not just submerge the hose as many other forums have stated that you could hydrolock the motor. Also, other forums recommend that you change your oil within 40 miles of adding this to your oil as it really thins up the oil (true or not IDK, it's internet info so take it as you will).

Used it on many xA's (fleet service). Connected to the EVAP line. I think PCV connection may not be letting much mix to the #4 cylinder. Sometimes throws Check Engine Light- just clear the memory and it it's usually OK.
Helps to clean intake valves, cylinders usually stay clean anyway.
I'd do it every 20-30K miles def right before changing oil.

PCH - Do you happen to have a diagram you can post showing the 'evap' line? Might be a big aid to people considering this cleaner as trying to figure out which hose to use can be confusing.

Thanks!

Re: Sea Foam To be or Not to be?....

i used this stuff on my gsx and wow befor i did it if i was lucky i would get 200 to the tank and after i did it i was gettin 280 and couple times 300 to the tank. now my car had 153,xxx miles on it but it did help alot. i did about 1/2 to 3/4 in the crank cass and all that was left in the gass tank. if your going to do this i would recomend doing it wayyy out of the city because this is like jamoebond smoke screen lol and for me it lasted a good 5 min and when i came back the smoke was still there so be carful but it worked great for me.

EVAP line shadowed in red. Goes from the throttle body to the EVAP solenoid valve near the air filter. You can disconnect it at either end.
PCV line shadowed in yellow. If you take a close look at the intake runner for #4 and where the PCV connects to the manifold you'll see why i think the treatment may miss that cylinder.

^^^ Rare pic of the intake manifold after minor explosion
Runner for #4 cyl doesn't have much sludge compared to the rest 3. I think that means PCV flow doesn't get into that runner.

I've used this product and similar kits in the past. The cool thing we used for the intake portion was an IV type reservoir with a regulator valve that allowed the motor to take in the liquid at it's own pace. Too much too quick will stall out the motor or at least come really close to it. And anyone who does plan to do this treatment needs to be prepared for a butt-load of white smoke pouring out the exhaust.

When there is no regulator valve you can use adjustable wrench to squeeze the rubber hose to dial in the flow. ViseGrips work too.

Re: Sea Foam To be or Not to be?....

Holsy $h1T PLEASE DO NOT. This sound really irrational as to so many of you ghost/ghouls using this. PLEASE DON'T A couple of things here.

A: Oil -- Adding something like this to your oil is a cleaner that will be running in your system for up to 5K+ miles that could corrode at gaskets and seals in the engine/oil pump.

B: Intake -- FIRST AND F(*^*(^N foremost that is the BRAKE BOOSTER. not DIRECTLY connected to the PCV NOR the intake.

C: WOW: Something so "universal" is to good to be true.

To solve all this.

and "Engine Cleaning" or system cleaner....what ever they want to call it.....I will let you in on a recipe I was sworn to protect and never tell...I have not even told anyone at my shop this.

For the oil system. Look at your dipstick before an oil change. Look at the color and viscosity. Take 2 quarts of shit motor oil, the cheapest you can get. Than take 1.75 quarts of the gunk engine flush from murrays/autozone. Mix them together in a jug or container of your choosing. Buy some cheapo oil filter. Drain ALL your oil. Pourin your mixture of engine flush and chep oil. Change the filter to the chepo. And run the car for 15 mins. Drain that out. Pur in new oil. Put on new premium filter. Run the car for 5 mins. Now look at the difference. (Try this and PM me to see how it turns out )

For the intake cleaning. Run a STP or whatever brand fuel system cleaner gas tank treatment every other oil change. If not by a throttle body brush and clean it out every other oil change.

Ther are WAY more safe ways to do this than taking ONE product nad inducing it into your system. Any questions or details wanted feel free to PM me.
