It's about as self-explainatory as possible. Make sure the weight on the corners are balance.
Like why I didn't move the battery in my Camaro to the rear. Yeah it is a 58-42 weight ratio but it is balanced properly and the suspension and inherent design is having a heavy nose not a heavy left side or right side.
Whereas my Corvette has twin 9 gallon gas tanks to put the weight over the side and a rear mounted transmission for a 51-49 weight ratio. The two sides are also equally weighed with the alternator balancing out the battery as far as side to side weight is.
The Camaro on the other hand has the passengers seat shoved to the side and the transmission tunnel also sitting to the passengers side to make up it balance correctly. I guess they didn't put the same engineering into where they were going to place weight in comparison to ergonomics. |

| Re: "Project GUTTED" The reinvention of my xB... That sounds like fun for sure _ Id like to see how it turns out ! This weekend I took out the rear seat as well - the seat backs must be like 50 lbs all together. The rear seat support bar is in place. I think a polished allow sway bar would look good back there . |

| Re: "Project GUTTED" The reinvention of my xB... My thinking was that a Perrin Pulley ( that I cant afford yet ) adds the same amount of HP as removing 100 lbs from the inside of the car - ( so the claim ) . Removing the seats was a more cost effective alternative, and also makes more room to carry my bicycles.
it would be super cool if I could find a lightweight alternative to fabricating a custom "truck style bed" back there. just to have everything covered ( noise reduction) and a "flat" area for storage or an air mattress should I go camping in it. LOL |

LOL | PeruzziScion has a false floor in his made from 3/8 ply with a 2x4 mini box frame under it with spacers to keep it supported. it will hold over 300lb in fact. a buddy of mine made it and was thinking of making more and selling them but decided not to. i guess not enough interest. |

| Re: "Project GUTTED" The reinvention of my xB... The only thing I worry about in having a solid flat floor is if you get rear ended. Culd it act like a knife and cut you in half at the waist? I think made out of two pieces connected with a bevel edge would be better. Just my thoughts. |

Aluminum/carbon dash.
Carbon fiber can be laid like fiberglass. (alot of the same steps) So why not convert the dash to a aluminum dash. And hell since you want to put your XB on the jenny craig diet, might as well fab up some sheet metal door panels, and hatch pannels.
Also, pulling the a/c condesor lightens things up a bit, and keeps your operating temps down.
battery relocation is key as well. |

| Re: "Project GUTTED" The reinvention of my xB... who are you going through for the CF doors?
also, replacing your inner door panels and dash with sheet metal or CF for qeight reduction is a little retarded. the plastic that is used for the xB's door panels and dash is lighter then both sheet metal aluminum and CF, it's the guts under the dash that could be removed like the heater core and venting system and air bag system / compression tank and all that. BUT sense he's keeping it for both track and a daily, some of those features still come in handy.
if you REALLY want to have CF door panels, goto jdmcarboy.com, they have them for both front and rear doors but the weigh about 3lbs more then the stock plastic door panels. it's not the carbon nitting, it's the resin that makes it heavier.
that false floor though... good work on it, but if you want to save as much weigt as possible, have that plywood piece copied and made of CF aswell, theres a good 20lbs there.
and get rid of those damn rear seat belts lol
oh and if you have a chance. when ever you get the CF rear hatch piece, could you weigh the stock hatch and the new CF hatch see how much it's saving? i'd like to see how heavy the stock hatch is. |
