Painting the engine cover...

So I want to paint the engine cover and it doesn't look that hard. I know I'm going to have to clean that thing really well, and use engine paint since it gets hot in there - not a problem.

My questions are - is it easy to take that thing off/how do I do it? And also, any tips on the painting so I don't catch fire in there (etc.)... I don't see any DIYs on this so I figured I'd throw it out there. Any tips?

Re: Painting the engine cover...

To get it off, there are 4 acorn nuts, 2 on top of the cover and 2 on the front, looking at you as you are standing there. I think they are 10mm, but not positive. Just undo those and set them in a safe place, and then pull the cover off. As far as paint, I haven't done it yet, but from one thread on here (i'll get you a link) the author used duplicolor primer and color.

Hope that helps!!!

Here is that link:

Actually you dont need engine paint,It does not get that hot.Mine is brushed painted with latex (Water based paint) with no issues for well over a year now.Just clean good and spray with adheasion promoter.

Good luck,Scott
