Noisy Cricket in the Engine Bay?

Lately I've been hearing a sound that resembles a very quiet chirping/squeaking, almost like a cricket, when I accelerate around 1800-2000 rpm. It makes this sound every shift until the revs increase, and even at idle.

I've noticed it tends to go away when I put the clutch in while shifting, but I don't have a guess as to what it could be. Maybe my throw out bearing? It seems to come from just below/behind the airbox.

I have a 2005 with a manual trans. Thanks!

Any one experience any odd sounds while shifting? My box has 60K on the clock with the factory tranny fluid.

Re: Noisy Cricket in the Engine Bay?

I have the same noise coming from my engine. It might be a pulley or the drive belt...

Re: Noisy Cricket in the Engine Bay?

mine started doing it after i washed the engine bay. after further inspection, it was my belt from the pulley to the power steering pump. the degreaser dried it out i think. sprayed one shot of belt dressing (read: k&n filter oil) on the belt while the engine was running and the sound instantly went away been gone for 3 months now

hahahahahaha. gotta be quick on the google image search.

on another note, to quiet a squeaky belt, use a crayon. Ive done it to all my cars that have had squeaky belts, and its silenced them all.

Re: Noisy Cricket in the Engine Bay?

I'll pick up some belt dressing and see what it does. If it is my belt(s) what is the schedule mileage for those to be replaced? I checked on edmunds and only found items indicating to check the drive belt(s).

Re: Noisy Cricket in the Engine Bay?

But why would it go away when clutching? I have the same issue. But mine is almost like a high pitch rattling. and goes away when I clutch

I hear the sound when I am just sitting there. I think my belt is either loose or too tight. Most likely loose.
