How to install a cat-back?

While doing the belts I crawled under and looked at the Cat and piping. Has anyone installed there own after market catback system? Did you cut the pipe right under that hanger in the second pic and weld on the new resonator? Did you use a 2" sleeve and muffler clamps and no welding?
The rear of the Cat before the resonater is 2" OD pipe. I measured the front of the Cat pic three and it is 2.125" OD.
Has anyone replaced their Cat and if so what size did you use?

Re: How to install a cat-back?

The only catback pre-made for xB i know of is Magnaflow and you'd have to cut the exhaust pipe couple of inches after the Cat to slip it on and then tighten with the clamp.
For those in Cali: only the factory Cat is legal. No aftermarket units got approved yet.

Re: How to install a cat-back?

i had a jardine catback on mine, had to cut 4" back from the rear 02 sensor. the magnaflow and jardine look similiar so i would assume it would be the same

Re: How to install a cat-back?

Did you weld where you cut the old pipe and installed the new piping or just use a muffler clamp?

What was the sound of the Jardine system compared to?
Did it wake the neighbors when starting up in the morning?
Low rumble or high pitched?
At freeway speeds could you still hear the radio?

Re: How to install a cat-back?

it is supposed to slip on then use an exhaust clamp. the jardine was extremly tight to get on so i had it welded.

the jardine (as a full catback) was too loud for my taste. so i left the front half of the sys on and had my trd axleback welded up to it. now it sounds great.

there was an increase in power ( using butt dyno) with the full cat back compared to just bolted on an axle back.

Re: How to install a cat-back?

I have the Greddy Evo2 axle back exhaust and removed the resonator myself. I had it welded shut at a shop. It sounds great but it was a lot of work...

Yo you need to stop posting this in everyone's post!!!

I have a custom 2.25" piping catback with a flowmaster-hushpower II resonator where the factory resonator is and NOTHING ELSE but piping and it is rediculously loud.

Oh and i get up at 5 in the morning and I have the nieghborhood hating me haha.

hope this helped haha

Re: How to install a cat-back?

I just purchased a DME header and I currently have a TRD exhaust, what I am looking for is a free flow catalytic converter. I found one for the XA, will it be ok?

Re: How to install a cat-back?
