Re: wilwood rear disc conversion

I really can't give any numbers yet as to what the conversion kit will cost. Just because its not done for one and hasn't been tested yet to make sure everything works. I wasn't able to get the caliper bracket done last night but heres a few pictures of what did get done. All the machined items used on this first one was milled on a manual mill, or turned on a manual lathe. Items in the kits will be CNC machined.

Now when the new rotors show up, I have to get them set up in the lathe to rework them. The rotors will not mount on the hub without modifications to the rotor. A few more small things to do and I will be mounting a kit on the box to test.

Re: wilwood rear disc conversion

Got a little more done Thursday night. Here are a few more work in progress shots. This is the caliper bracket I'll use for testing. The ones in the kit will be CNC'd and have a nicer profile.

anyhow , i dont like the bbk like wilwood and endless cuz i would HAVE to run 17+ rims on my xb to clear those huge calipers. the toyota corrola rear disk was looking good cuz i can order some cross drilled rotors to match the front and still fit 15's.
I tried a stock xB steelie tonight and there are no clearance issues with this set-up. So it looks like you could run 15"-? wheels. Heres a couple pictures just to show it mounted up. It has about 3/8" to 1/2" betwen the caliper and the wheel. So if you use your stockers in the winter, it won't be a problem!

Re: wilwood rear disc conversion

looking way cool cant wait to see the finished kit.
now that you have it mocked up close to final fit what is the measured difference between the mounting surface on rear member to mounting surface on rotor compared to the difference from stock member to drum mounting surface
by the way your doing a great job thank you

Re: wilwood rear disc conversion

Sorry Steve, what are you wanting to know? I guess you lost me in that post. I'll be more than happy to answer, just need to figure out what it is your talking about. The caliper bracket moved the hub out 5/8". just like the OTG or others spacers would.

Re: wilwood rear disc conversion

i got that, but what is the difference from back of hub to wheel mounting surface on new set compared to stock hub to drum wheel mounting surface
since this is from a diff set up the measurement might not be the same.
ie; if you used a caliper tool and measured hub to front on both what is the diff not counting the brake caliber bracket. hope this helps

Re: wilwood rear disc conversion

Steve, I calipered from the backside of the hub to the wheel surface and the new set-up with the disc is .100 narrower than the drum. Not a big difference at all.

Re: wilwood rear disc conversion

Staticlink05: Thats the plan. I'm waiting on a stock E-Brake cable from the local Toyota dealer now. I'm trying to make this as a complete replacement Drum to Disc conversion.

Well, I've ran into a snag! After mounting this up so many times, standing back looking at it, and taking pictures of the progress. I was yet to notice that the bleeder valve was below the brake line! That won't work! I liked the position of this set-up, but I'm gonna have to make some new brackets to rotate it up some more. If I leave it where it is and flip the caliper over, you would have to drill two holes in the hub flange on the swingarm, for the E-brake cable to go through. As I think most people could do that. They shouldn't have to. So they are re-drawn, now I just have to start making them. On a good note, the brakelines are here, and the E-brake cable, so..... Just wanted to keep you updated!
