Squeak/grown while turning

My 06 scion XB just developed a squeak, whine or groan while turning. Generally only does it when doing a pretty tight turn.

Earlier today we replaced a bad driver side wheel bearing. The noise didn't develop till after we got done doing that. The moan & roaring noise went away immediately after replacing the wheel bearing.

But now we have this new noise issue. And while driving at any speed there is a slight metal on metal sound. Brake pads were new as of 5K miles ago. I did take off the wheels to check the pads and they look just fine.

Any ideas? I noticed on the front side of the driverside rotor is two very slight grooves in the rotor surface that was not there before. I checked the brake pad lining and there isn't as far as I know any junk stuck between the pad and rotor before or after the repair work was done. Can't figure out where those two small grooves came from or what might be causing this sqeak when turning issue.

Thanks for any help

$500 total. It's a mistake that will never happen again. From now on it goes to the dealership first.

I have the same noise too grrrrrr while turning left and a grr grr grr while turning right... It's gotta be the wheel bearings too.

Re: Squeak/grown while turning

takes some "oomph" to get it right. ALOT of grease too... i've seen a good number of bearing jobs that haven't used enough grease.

as for your rotors, highly doubt an improperly done bearing job would ahve put those grooves in there. could be that he didnt clean the rotors off of any break dust before putting the new pads on. so dust between the pad and the rotor can consolidate into very small pearel like debris pieces between the pad and rotor and with enough pressure can cause that to happen. also, any iron based small rocks from the road getting stuck between the pad shoe and the rotor can do the same thing as it grinds to a dust.

Re: Squeak/grown while turning

Mine is going under wheel bearing surgery today. -.-

I hope it's not as much of a pain as a lot of people are saying.
