Re: Name the noise, win a prize!

Get someone to stand outside the car & listen. It could be a rear e brake adjuster, spring, some such. If you can back up without the noise, you've found the problem....

Re: Name the noise, win a prize!

get the car on 4 jackstands so you can"drive" the car. only time i heard something myself was the very fisrt set of rims I ever bought on my first car. wheel lugs weren't tight enough and while braking, the wheel spokes somehow were hitting the brake caliper. so if a wheel is not centered and torqued quite right, you could get that noise

Worst case, I've a similar sound, 1 of the hub bearings is bad. Usually there is a humming noise that gets louder as the bearing goes bad, but they can just fail

I have had 2 mechanic friends drive the car and look at it, they both responded with WTF IS THAT?!

Toyota wants 100 just to LOOK for the problem. If they cant find the prob, im still out the 100. So if you would like to let me borrow 100 bucks just so i can figure out what it is, and then pay for parts and labor on top of that im open to your generosity.

I replaced the wheel hub bearings already. It was a totaly diff noise.

This is ONLY heard while braking. You can stop using the e brake, drive it like you stole it, slam it around an Auto X course, no noise untill you lightly hit the brake pedal.

New rotors & pads
The noise comes from the right front - yes?
There is no evidence wheel rub
It, from the video, sounds rather loud
You would think someone outside the car could locate exactly where the sound is coming from, yes?

You would think so, lol

Im going to put oem rotors and pads on soon i think.

We are now learning towards a bent hub, from the bearing install. That under braking is causing the rotor to rub on something.

Re: Name the noise, win a prize!

It has new hub bearings & the noise started shortly thereafter? Or after the rotor change?

If it's the hub or the bearing, removing the caliper & rotor then setting a gage on hub ( see how true ) will eliminate the hub. You're sure the bearing was pressed in all the way? Otherwise the caliper is trying to make the rotor true the hub.

The question is, hub, rotor, caliper, why can't you feel it in the pedal? And is the noise as loud as I think it is?

The noise is loud, but not loud enough to hear with radio on.

Hub bearing and rotors were done at the same time. Car was good as new for months, i hit a huge bump in a contrustion zone on the way to a car show and the noise started after that. STarted off faint, like i thought i was hearing things, and it wouldnt do it all the time, then it got worse.

I think you may be on to something though.

Re: Name the noise, win a prize!

WTF? Mine is making a loud clicking noise on the driver's side when brakes are applied and even when I take it out of park and put it in reverse with my foot holding the brake it clicks loudly while the car barely moves!! I've replaced pads and end links w/bushings. Could it come from my coilovers?
